If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans
Ann Coulter
About the Book:

Political pundit Ann Coulter is a #1 New York Times bestselling author. Whether the buyers are staunch conservatives in agreement with her views, or outraged liberals in search of inflammatory statements is difficult to determine - but both sides should find something to match their interests in her latest book.

If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans is actually a collection of some of Coulter's most controversial statements from her syndicated column, interviews and speeches. In her (rather long-winded) introduction, she explains that the book is a reference tool for liberals: "I don't mean to be critical, but I think liberals have missed some of my zestier quotes, which is why I've decided to compile this volume. This is your lucky day, liberals! Here's a handy compilation of my most outrageous statements in an easy-to-use format."

The book is divided into thematic chapters with snarky titles, such as "Baby-Killing: Abort Liberals, Not Children" and "Liberalism and Other Psychological Disorders." It includes humorous quotes, such as when a college student asked Coulter what she thought of premarital sex, and she replied "Honestly, that's the worst pick-up line I've ever heard," and much more divisive comments.

One such is from a speech Coulter made at the University of Colorado-Boulder in 2003: "New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman has written that our only choices in response to terrorism are to 'become less open as a society' or simply 'to live with much higher levels of risk.' I have another solution. It's a little something I've worked up - I like to call it 'racial profiling.'"

Although Coulter fans should find the book wickedly funny at times and liberals will be suitably outraged, If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans is rather disappointing. The idea of a "best of" book seems unnecessary, as many of the quotes are already familiar to those who follow politics, so those readers will find much of Coulter's book redundant. The best parts are the chapter introductions, written in her familiar, over-the-top style. The quotes are good, yes, but they are oftentimes taken out of context and without enough background information.

If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans is probably an unnecessary read, except for the most faithful Ann Coulter fans, and those to whom she directed the book - liberals who want a handy compilation of all of the political pundit's most inflammatory comments. After all, according to Coulter, "Uttering lines that send liberals into paroxysms of rage, otherwise known as 'citing facts,' is the spice of life."
