November 2008 Movie News & Reviews

November 7th

► What happens when we cross the fantasy life of celebrity with the harshness of reality? Is the action star still a hero, or just an ordinary man dealing with life's daily struggles? JCVD, the newest release from Peace Arch and brought to the screen by Gaumont, Samsa Film, Artemis Productions, and RTBF hits theatres in a limited release on November 7th.

House - On a deserted back road in Alabama, Jack and Stephanie find themselves driving fast and running late. Their world suddenly changes when a strange accident leaves them stranded with no car, no cell phone coverage, and no help in sight. They have no choice except to continue on foot. As darkness approaches, they round a bend and see a small sign at the top of a long gravel driveway: The Wayside Inn. The exhausted couple stands in front of an inviting house, complete with gated stone wall, ancient oak trees, and a note welcoming weary travelers. Inside they find another couple with an equally troubling story about a similar accident. It seems that backwoods pranksters have made their day miserable. Still, they are safe . . .Or so they think.

Changeling- Based upon a trues story, the film is about a woman whose son goes missing in 1920s Los Angeles. After claiming that The police returned the wrong child, the woman is thrown into a mental institution. When it turns out that she is right, she goes to court and makes litigation history. THE DUKES is the wry comic tale of a down-and-out Doo Wop band tho takes a bumbling detour into burglary in their endless quest to make good on their dreams. The film is a rollicking caper that is also deeply candid about life, love, friendship and the heart it takes to keep on struggling to find meaning and connection as life takes one absurd turn after another. For when these middle-aged buddies are forced to become mid-life bandits - and think they've hit on a sure-fire plan for the score of a lifetime -- it accidentally results in far greater pleasures than loot. The Dukes will be released in limited areas today and wider release on Nov. 21st.
