About the Album:

Known best perhaps as an intrinsic part of the wildly successful Matchbox Twenty, Paul Doucette is preparing his first solo release, milk the bee, under the moniker The Break And Repair Method. milk the bee sees Doucette taking on the role of frontman with his own exciting brand of emotionally-driven songs and melodies.

Co-produced by Greg Collins (U2, Gwen Stefani), milk the bee was birthed on some of Doucette's rare down time. Paul had secured a deal before even beginning the recording process, as he prepared to enter the studio, Doucette found himself without a label due to modern music industry shake-ups. Armed with a carefully curated team of musicians at his side, from Nina Gordon (Veruca Salt) to Tracy Bonham, Moon Zappa, David Levita (Alanis Morrisette), Roger Manning (Jellyfish, Beck) and Rusty Anderson (Paul McCartney), Doucette began the recording process nonetheless and left with a collection of brilliant, catchy and emotion-laden songs, which he later dubbed milk the bee. "When I first came up with the title, it was from a place of pure frustration. It seemed a futile thing to do- you make a record, and really, what's the point? It's like milking a bee."

On milk the bee, Doucette shifts track-to-track from pain and loneliness to healing and confidence. Each song is laced with Doucette's vocals, just grainy enough to provide the perfect counter point to the pitch-perfect piano melodies that comprise the record. With song themes ranging from the birth of his daughter ("Now We Become Part of It") to the album's closer, inspired by a photo of an elderly couple ("The Most Somebody Can Know"), Doucette bookends milk the bee with the two seminal human experiences, and touches on the ups and downs in between. The album's opener, "This City (Is Bound to Do Us In)," is a pop-rock Trojan horse -- a catchy hook wrapped around his negative feelings toward the war in Iraq. The album's first single, and one of the only love songs, "You Won't Be Able To Be Sad," is the sunniest modern pop song about not getting what you want.

Through the process of creating this album, it seems Doucette has realized that making a record isn't quite as futile an effort as he once surmised. The cathartic pop-rock experience of milk the bee will intrigue the listener immediately. Doucette notes, "People actually do milk bees. I didn't know that."
