Locomotive Records will release Life Will Kill You by
Clawfinger following the Swedish band’s last album, Hate
Yourself With Style.
Marriages of rap and metal have yielded some fascinating
inventions in the past what with Anthrax/Public Enemy,
Aerosmith/Run DMC, Faith No More, and Stuck Mojo, etc.
Clawfinger takes a rap aesthetic, infuses it with metal,
goes all electronic on your ass, and ends up with the
rather punk statement “now you’re three minutes closer
to death” after the three-minute title track. How true.
It’s been a long, strange trip for the band. Deaf Dumb
Blind was released in 1993 after five years of toiling
in the trenches. Singer/rapper Zak Tell and keyboardist
Jocke Skog started the band when they met at their hospital
workplace. Enter Norwegian guitarist Bard Torstensen,
some lineup changes along the way, and Clawfinger today
stands tall with the aforementioned three plus drummer
Henka Johannson and bassist Andre Skaug.
Life Will Kill You was recorded and self-produced at Sweden’s
famous Fear And Loathing Studios, a facility that Clawfinger
runs together with their good friends in Meshuggah.
