| Shwa Losben - Chop Chop |

Review By Sean
There's a certain element of playfulness to this album.
It's dominated by quick moving acoustic guitars and
an overall upbeat sound. Losben's voice is haunting
angelic, a more masculine Elliott Smith. The melodies
are dependant on the accompaniments; everything in
step in the exact same direction. It's simple and
sounds good, but lacks artistic development.
Losben's lyrics are very well written but the music
is entirely predictable. Everything is very simple;
you just know where the music is going. The entire
song can be gathered from the first few seconds. Every
song has a dragging tempo, which just adds to you're
impatience while listening to it. If it wasn't for
the impressive lyrics, you could get the point of
whole album in a little over a minute.
Everything is very enjoyable, but at times the music
seems completely adolescent. The music endorses the
cover. It sounds as though Losben decided to record
in grogginess of early morning. This album is simple,
too simple - or maybe he's just overly ingenious.

Review By Amanda
"Chop Chop," the second installment from
Shwa Losben, is filled with angst and blatant honesty.
The albums folk-rock sound is supported by lyrics
filled with unrequited love for girls the musician
seems to adore from afar. The album, specifically
songs such as, "Myriah" and "Cause
You're New," provides the perfect soundtrack
for nights spent alone longing for the person you
truly want. Part of me wishes he would take some action
so that one of the songs could have a happy ending,
but then again, wouldn't that completely defeat the
purpose.
However, to classify "Chop Chop" as a solely
depressing album about love lost would be unfair.
Although most songs ("Chop Chop" and "Not
a Warm Place Anymore") have a disheartening view
on life, "Never Too Soon to Compromise"
has an unexpected sarcastic undertone. His departure
from mellow songs to a more upbeat sound is a refreshing
surprise and in my opinion, preferable. Maybe this
sense of humor could have helped him get all those
girls he writes about in his songs.
