Into The Pride
Animal Planet's large predator expert Dave Salmoni leaves the city life of Toronto, Salmoni heads deep into the Namibian bush and embarks on the most transformative mission of his life. He will spend six months alone among a pride of lions and the diverse and often deadly wildlife in Africa. His mission is twofold - to return to his wild roots and to head Into The Pride to save a rogue pride of lions from elimination.

After spending a lot of time in the "urban jungle" as a host and executive producer, Salmoni is given the ultimate opportunity to reconnect with two of his lasting passions - the serenity and solitude of living in the wild and his love of big cats, particularly lions.

This five-part series takes viewers along with Salmoni on a tenuous journey - accompanied by a camera crew during the day and completely alone at night. Setting up camp deep within Namibia's Erindi Private Game Reserve, Salmoni spends each solitary night while African game roam through his campground. He wakes up early every morning in order to get closer to the lions he wants to save.

Into The Pride extends far beyond Salmoni's personal journey. As their last chance for survival, Salmoni must help a pride of "problem lions" learn to accept humans and support the growing eco-tourism in the area. These cats, transplanted from the largest national park in Namibia, are known for cattle raiding and aggression toward humans; they must calm down or they will be destroyed. Salmoni's challenge is immediate; he'll need to get as close to the lions as possible - dangerously close. The show follows Salmoni as he tries to become the first human the lions can trust. It's an emotional journey told through Salmoni's compelling personal narrative as he attempts to forge a relationship with every lion, from Brutus, the dominant male, to Rough and Tumble, the youngest cubs.

Into The Pride is just as much about the man as it is about the beasts that he meets. The series tests all of Salmoni's experience and knowledge as a zoologist and large predator expert as he risks everything - including his life and the safety of his TV crew. The experience will change him every bit as much as it changes the lions. Watch to see if the two species can harmoniously share the land they both depend on for survival.

Monsters Inside Me
Not all monsters are big. In fact, some of the most deadly organisms in the world can not be seen by the human eye. Using size to their advantage, microscopic parasites quietly invade their hosts without fear of inhibition or detection. Once inside, these creatures wait in remain hidden for months, or sometimes years, before striking-all the while, silently feeding off their victims.

This series shows what happens when humans fall prey to parasitic activity. Revealing the dramatic stories of people whose lives were changed forever by an encounter with a parasite, this six-part series explores the shocking, gruesome and sometimes deadly details of a parasitic infection. Every episode is a constant battle for life as doctors and scientists attempt to unravel each case...before it's too late.

"Monsters Inside Me is part horror movie, part medical detective story," says Marjorie Kaplan, president and general manager of Animal Planet. "Parasites live everywhere-our water, soil and even in the air we breath. When it comes to these stealth creatures, there's no where to hide."

Throughout Monsters Inside Me, viewers watch as victims are afflicted with things such as exotic as malaria, to as common as raccoon roundworm, which is found in many parts of the U.S. No matter what the assailant, each parasite puzzels doctors, and victims are frequently misdiagnosed, before the real culprit is unveiled.

Doctors think John Figge's stifling headaches are the result of a brain tumor until surgery reveals Schistosoma mansoni worms attacking his brain. Vietnam vet, Tim Carmack, is suffering from swollen and pussy legs. He visits multiple specialists-none of which have any answers-until a urologist finally realizes Carmack is suffering from the parasite Wuchereria bancrofti, which he contracted 40 years earlier. And teenager Mallory Greiner contracts Acantheamoeba keratitis, a parasite that’s intent on eating her cornea, but doctors believe she is suffering from herpes. By the time each organism is discovered, doctors must rush to reverse the damage left in the wake of these parasitic nightmares.

Biologist Dan Riskin, with help from doctors and experts who witnessed each case, leads the scientific discussion about each parasite. Riskin, currently a researcher at Brown University, completed his doctoral work at Cornell University, specializing in the only mammalian parasite in the world-the vampire bat.

"Parasites are tremendously advanced creatures that have had millions of years to learn and combat the behaviors of their hosts," says Riskin. "Having had a few myself, I can tell you, it's not an experience to look forward to, or one you can easily forget."

Whale Wars
In March 2009, when the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society vessel, The Steve Irwin, docked in Hobart, Tasmania, two dozen members of the Australian Federal Police invaded to confiscate hundreds of hours of videotape, launching an investigation into what was one of the most intense and dramatic campaigns ever conducted by the Sea Shepherds in their 30-year history.

Those seized tapes and hundreds of hours of other footage comprise the second season of Animal Planet's Whale Wars.

This season is dangerous, drama-filled and controversial than ever with collisions at sea, harrowing nautical maneuvers, a near-death experience in an ice field and more aggressive Japanese defenses against the Sea Shepherds - including the use of Long Range Acoustical Devices (LRADs), sonic devices that cause intense pain and could cause permanent hearing damage - are just some of the highlights in store this season.

And this year, the Japanese whaling fleet suffered a deadly loss as one of its workers slipped and fell overboard (not during an engagement with the Sea Shepherds) and whose body was never recovered. Captain Paul Watson and Sea Shepherd offered to help in a rescue mission for the missing worker, but the whaling vessels claimed they did more to interfere than assist.

"I have always said that we would do everything we can short of hurting people to end illegal whaling in the Antarctic," says Watson, founder of Sea Shepherd. "We have done everything we could with the resources available to us this year. We shut down their illegal operations for over a month in total. We cost them money, and we have saved the lives of a good many whales."

This season on Whale Wars, in addition to returning crew members Peter Brown (First Officer), Peter Hammarstedt (Second Officer), Chris Aultman (Helicopter Pilot/Aviation Director), Laurens de Groot (Deckhand), Ben Potts (Helicopter Crew) and Shannon Mann (Quartermaster), The Steve Irwin is joined by Jane Taylor (Quartermaster), Luke Van Horn (Communications Officer), Andy Perry (Leading Deckhand), Molly Kendall (Deckhand) and Laura Dakin (Chief Cook). These featured crew members help comprise the 40 international crew who spent the winter putting their lives on the line for whales.

Night
Man has always feared what takes place after the lights go out. From the shivers down our spines when coyotes howl to the involuntary jumps when snakes hiss and the uncontrollable urge to run when confronted with bright, beady eyes, nighttime is about the unknown, and it scares us to death.

Night taps into these primal fears and takes viewers into the darkness to experience the wonder and terror of nocturnal nature and all its animal activities. Host and animal expert Brandon McMillan goes on a global quest through jungles, forests and savannahs to capture nightime animal behavior. From giant Humboldt squid cannibalizing each other to the evasive nature of the Amazon's most poisonous snake and the nighttime blood baths of the mythological vampire bat, Night finds out what comes alive when the sun goes down.

During each episode of Night McMillan goes to a new location where he utilizes local animal experts to help him track down and study animals that thrive after dark. Drawing from his years of experience training animals, coupled with the adrenaline of youth and adventure, McMillan faces every situation head on as he swims with sharks, comes face to face with a pride of hungry lions and is cornered by a protective hippo -- all with the added intensity of utter darkness.

"I think it's in our nature to be afraid of the dark," says McMillan. "When we're kids, we're taught that monsters such as werewolves and vampires come out at night, but this show examines the real nocturnal animals -- and sometimes they're just as frightening."

Although humans lack the keen senses that allow animals to be active and productive at night, fortunately for McMillan, science can make up for what nature forgot. Throughout Night, he utilizes several technologies that are necessary to the success of his nighttime excursions. Night vision, thermal imagery, parabolic microphones, infrared beacons and other custom-designed devices help McMillan navigate the pitch-black habitats, uncovering animals that could never be seen in the dark with the naked eye.

Escape to Chimp Eden

Deep in the heart of South Africa, the Jane Goodall Institute's Chimp Eden Sanctuary is a place of rebirth and renewal for more than two dozen chimps, most of whom suffered horrible lives in human captivity. This dream has quickly become a reality in just a few years.

Sanctuary Director Eugene Cussons has traveled throughout Africa at great personal risk to give these chimps the chance of a meaningful and fulfilling life. For Eugene, however, the dream extends beyond the sanctuary itself, he wants to teach the chimps survival skills that will help them survive in the wild.

The success of his approach is on display at every turn. Chimps who never-before climbed a tree are now able to swing from branch to branch. Chimps who once survived on table scraps and garbage now feast on wild figs, crack nutshells with rocks to get to the meat inside and pick through tall grass for the ripest shoots. Chimps who spent years alone and isolated in cramped cages now thrive in solid and stable family groups.

Every day, Eugene moves closer to his ultimate goal -- returning the strongest and most skilled chimps back to the rainforest where they belong.

There are always stebacks and struggles. Some chimps are so humanized they resist their own natural instincts, while others constantly test the physical boundaries of the sanctuary. Any of the chimps could lash out violently at any moment.

This is real life. Chimps get sick; chimps get hurt; and, sadly, chimps die.

Escape to Chimp Eden presents this powerful, on-going drama through the transparent eye of documentary realism. This is not just an animal story; it is the emotional and moving saga of one man's unique bond with our closest primate cousins and his fierce dedication to their survival.

Groomer Has It
Season two of Groomer Has It is sassier, snippier and more cut-throat than before. Hosted by Jai Rodriguez, this competition series sniffs out 12 of America's most creative and hard-working groomers -amateur and professional - brings them to Los Angeles and puts their drive to the test as they compete for the supreme grooming title. The groomers face tougher challenges and bigger rewards, and get competitive and inspired to transform some of the scruffiest-looking dogs to their doggie best! Judges Dr. Karen Halligan, Xavier Santiago and Joey Villani put the groomers through their paces each week to see whose knowledge and skill can turn the shaggiest, most unstylish pooch into a fancy, prancing pup. While every dog has its day, at the end of the series, only one groomer has his or hers... and is crowned 2009 Groomer of the Year!
Beverly Hills Groomer
Artist Knox has big dreams that might seem unlikely for a kid who grew up in a rough south central, Los Angeles neighborhood trying to overcome what fate dealt him. Coming off his impressive victory on Animal Planet's Groomer Has It last year and equipped with his winnings, Artist wants to strike while the iron's hot and open his own dog grooming salon and school. Determined to prove that an underdog can be the top dog in the highly competitive grooming industry while still giving back, Artist decides to bring his infectious charm, signature style and grooming skills to the ultra chic streets of Beverly Hills. But will the wealthy throngs of Rodeo Drive welcome him with open arms? With $50,000 in his pocket, a mobile-grooming truck and his trusty dog Bumpy by his side he is out to make his dreams a reality.

Beverly Hills Groomer continues Artist's story after being crowned 2008 Groomer of the Year. This 12-part, half-hour, fish-out-of-water reality series, documents the trials and tribulations Artist faces as he recruits furry and fabulous clients alike, raises funds to open his own shop, balances the demands of being a single father, and hopes to beat the odds of becoming a business success. With his "one for me, one for free," motto, Artist's ultimate goals are to give back to his community and the dogs that need him most.

"If anyone would have told me that dog grooming would be my calling and provide me with amazing, life-changing opportunities, I probably wouldn't have believed them," says Artist Knox. "Grooming saved my life and with my heart and a pair of scissors, I'm determined to make this business a success. Failure is not an option."

Overflowing with energy, passion and purpose, Artist puts his nose to the grindstone to gain a high-end clientele, including Olympic swimming gold-medalist, Greg Louganis and Emmy award-winning actress, Kathryn Joosten. With the help of his apprentice, his brother Desmond, Artist grooms everything from cocker spaniels to housecats to a baby yak! Artist's sister, Arvene also jumps in by securing clients and taking care of Ariel, Artist's son. Along the way, Artist gets business advice from financial advisor, Cameron Johnson and his friend Jasper, his former competition on Groomer Has It, who already has a successful grooming shop and school in Massachusetts.

Animal Cops: Philadelphia
This new Animal Cops segment is the result of Animal Planet and the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals teaming up. Animal Cops: Philadelphia follows the work of the Pennsylvania SPCA's Humane Law Enforcement team as they investigate cases of animal cruelty; rescue sick and abused animals and fight for justice on their behalf.

The Pennsylvania SPCA's humane law enforcement officers cover an area of over 46,000 square miles from their headquarters in Philadelphia. The six officers with full police powers and six agent trainees are on call 24 hours a day seven days a week protecting the city's one and a half million pets.

The officers are backed up by a dedicated team of veterinarians and technicians at the SPCA shelter hospital. With a committed animal behaviourist team they provide a second chance for injured, neglected or traumatized animals that have no other hope of receiving much-needed medical attention.

Together the team rescues over 10 000 animals each year in their mission to give hope and create happy endings out of tragic situations -- from mass animal hoarding; pitbull and rooster fighting; deliberate abuse and gross neglect. Animal Planet's cameras go with them in this exciting new series -- premiering in 2008 with 10 episodes -- as each day brings something new and unexpected.
