Storm
Chasers
Follow
the pursuit of the ultimate tornado footage in the heart of
"Tornado Alley" as scientists, researchers and weather
enthusiasts gear up and hunker down.
Reed Timmer and his team return with their newly armored
chase vehicle "The Dominator," and try to be first
on the storm scene ahead of IMAX filmmaker Sean Casey and
his monster tank-like TIV (Tornado Intercept Vehicle).
This season veteran researcher and storm chaser Tim Samaras
joins the team. His even keel, steady leadership is in marked
contrast to the frenzied atmosphere and roller coaster of
emotions inside Timmer and Casey's teams.
Last year, Sean, still collecting footage for his dream IMAX
film, continued his quest to film from inside an actual tornado.
During the first two seasons he was paired with researcher
and long-time storm chaser Dr Joshua Wurman, Sean is now with
a new team of young, eager but inexperienced trackers.
Can the greenhorns rise to the challenge? And will Sean keep
his cool managing them? Meanwhile, Reed Timmer, along with
chase buddies Joel and Chris, attempts to keep his red hot
streak of storm intercepts going. The team appears set to
continue its winning ways but when personal conflicts begin
to creep in, can they continue?
Ghost
Lab
Two
brothers have discovered some of the most intriguing results
in supernatural research to date with the help of the latest
technology--including what might be a recording of Civil War
soldiers talking. Brad and Barry Klinge are Texas natives who
in 2007 founded Everyday Paranormal, an investigation team that
has explored over 70 locations and given a new twist to paranormal
research. The Klinges and their team of investigators are featured
in the all-new 13-part series Ghost Lab.
The Klinge brothers travel to some of America's most haunted
locations with sophisticated equipment housed in a decked-out
travelling "ghost lab." This 24-foot car hauler
is capable of providing 200,000 watts of electricity to power
audio, video and photo analysis stations; flat-screen televisions
and an interactive touch-screen smartboard. The lab also houses
surveillance video cameras that can shoot 300 feet away in
total darkness with a 180-degree peripheral view; temperature,
humidity and dew point data loggers; various digital cameras,
including thermal imaging cameras; audio recorders; and more
than 8,000 feet of video cable. This on-site high-tech lab
allows investigators to analyze data on the premises in real
time, helping them to more narrowly focus their investigations
on suspected "hot spots."
The team also consults with some of the world's foremost
specialists in science measurements to devise and test theories
during their investigations. Is there more "ghost activity"
around water? Are spirits attached to specific items or locations?
Is there a parallel universe?
Some locations that will be investigated on Ghost Lab include
Tombstone, Ariz., home to some of the most violent deaths
in history; Shreveport Municipal Auditorium, where Elvis got
his start; and Granbury Opera House where, according to legend,
John Wilkes Booth changed his name to John St. Helen and performed
Shakespeare after assassinating President Lincoln.
Mega
Beasts
This
all-new six-part series is a detective story, bringing back
to life some of the biggest and most ferocious dinosaurs ever
to roam the earth. Through fossil clues and modern analogues
(animals with similar traits used to suggest the mega beasts’
behavior), scientists piece together what these mysterious creatures
looked like, how they behaved, how they fought, what they ate...and
what ate them. With the use of cutting-edge CGI, these enormous
beasts are put in modern day scenarios to demonstrate what they
would look and act like if they were still around today.
Six monsterous creatres are featured on Mega Beasts: "Spinosaurus,"
the largest known meat-eating dinosaur ever to live on the
planet, with a long crocodilian skull and massive claws; "Megalania,"
a giant lizard with a poisonous bite and a mouth full of huge
dagger-like teeth; "Terror Bird," a giant bird that
used its mighty beak to bash in its victims’ heads; "Acrocanthasaurus,"
a dinosaur whose powerful death grip and scissor-like bite
could kill prey ten times its size; "Mosasaur,"
a fearsome marine monster with an extra row of teeth on the
roof of its mouth and a jaw that slid to further decimate
its prey; and "Bear Dog," a creature that combined
the most lethal weapons of today's lion, wolf and grizzly
bear.
Dirty
Jobs
As
season five continues, host and creator Mike Rowe travels the
country to showcase the downright dirty jobs that most people
would go out of their way to avoid. From toilet crushers to
maple syrup processers to camel ranchers, Mike acts as apprentice
to the hard-working and skilled men and women who make civilized
life possible for the rest of us each and every day.
Since the series first debuted in 2005, Dirty Jobs has provided
an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at more than 200 dirty
jobs (and counting!) - in industries ranging from construction
to sanitation to manufacturing. This season Mike will head
to Miami, FL to try out marine salvaging, where he'll work
to remove submerged, abandoned boats from the water. He'll
then go to a recycling center in San Francisco to separate
the metal, fabric, padding and wood parts of a mattress so
each can be made into a new product.
In other premiere episodes this fall, Mike will try his hand
at hydrodam mechanics, cedar log peeling, glass making, dung
beetle researching and fireworks manufacturing, among various
others, adding even more diversity to his extensive resume.
Frorensics:
You Decide
At
a crime scene, every piece of evidence is critical to the
investigation and helps tell the true time line of events
for the deceased. Where the weapon is found, what direction
the blood splattered and how the body is positioned are all
significant as forensic investigators piece together the puzzle
of what actually happened.
Forensics: You Decide presents real-world compelling cases
in which the same set of forensic evidence can be interpreted
to tell two very different stories. In each episode, someone
stands accused. But there are two sides to every story, and
where one set of experts sees a definite murder, another may
argue that the cause of death is a suicide or an unfortunate
accident.
In the end, the jury gives its verdict - guilty or innocent
- but what interpretation of the forensic evidence was most
convincing for the audience? Inviting viewers to follow both
sides of the evidence trail.
Man
Vs. Wild
Seasoned
adventurer Bear Grylls served with the Special Air Service and
a special forces unit of the British army, where he was trained
as a survival expert. His experiences include climbing Mount
Everest, crossing the freezing North Atlantic Ocean in a small,
open boat and climbing a Himalayan peak described by Sir Edmund
Hillary as 'unclimbable'. Most normal people would easily be
defeated by all of the things Grylls has done. But now, he is
up against something completely different.
In each episode of Man vs. Wild, Bear strands himself in
popular wilderness destinations where tourists often find
themselves lost or in danger. He manages to find his way back
to civilization, he demonstrates local survival techniques,
such as escaping quicksand in the Moab Desert, navigating
dangerous jungle rivers in Costa Rica, crossing ravines in
the Alps and surviving sharks off Hawaii.
Out
of Egypt
Ancient
civilizations are filled with secret societies, ritual sacrifice,
brutal religious edicts and macabre burials. How are they linked
together and what does it say about human instinct? A whole
new kind of class is in session with the dynamic, engaging Dr.
Kara Cooney. Join this UCLA Professor of Egyptian Art and Architecture
as she bolts the lecture hall for tombs and temples around the
world bringing an exciting new perspective to the most fascinating
riddles in history in Out Of Egypt.
Kara studies various ancient societies using her understanding
og Egyptian customs and practices. In "Pyramids,"
she takes a closer look at these iconic monuments. In 2560
BC, the ancient Egyptians built the Giza Pyramid. Nearly 2,700
years later and some 7,700 miles away, the Aztecs erected
a similarly imposing structure. Is this a coincidence? Kara
explains that human nature's desire to be close to the gods,
to literally build a conduit to greater holiness, can be seen
in civilizations far from Egypt, from the construction of
the stepped temples of Mexico to the round pyramids of Sri
Lanka.
In "Relics," Kara investigates how and why our
hallowed dead are preserved and worshipped. A relic could
be the finger of a Catholic saint or a mummified ibis bird
buried in an ancient Egyptian catacomb. For millennia, people
have ascribed meaning and power to these remnants of their
hallowed dead but why? Kara explains that the bodies might
be dead, but they remain buried in our current physical world.
They are then seen as somehow magical - a bridge from the
living here on Earth to the dead in the heavens beyond.
To illustrate these beliefs, Kara undergoes a ritual cleansing
in Mexico involving human bones, takes part in a Buddhist
burning ceremony in Vietnam and pays a special visit to Sri
Lanka's most holy shrine - The Temple of the Tooth - to pay
respects to what is believed to be the actual tooth of the
Buddha. Throughout history, loved ones, martyrs and political
figures all share the appearance of being closer to Gods just
by the fact that they are no longer among the living.
"Kara
brings a fresh vitality to the field of archeology. She embodies
one of Discovery Channel's core attributes - an insatiable curiosity.
Her enthusiasm and energy shine through in this exciting new
series of specials," said John Ford, President and General
Manager, Discovery Channel.
Each special begins in Egypt, where she asks a question that
launches her on a quest around the world, As Kara interviews
experts and visits sacred sites, she expertly crafts linkages
between the social and religious practices of these ancient
cultures. In future Out of Egypt specials, Kara looks at beliefs
that built and destroyed civilizations, she traces the origins
of the Devil and literally descends into the underworld of
ancient burial practices.
As Kara ventures "Out of Egypt" over continents
and countries to study the Mayans of Central America, the
Incas of Peru, the Singhalese of Sri Lanka and other civilizations,
she discovers that when faced with the same materials on Earth,
the same biological matter and laws of physics, people will
come up with very similar strategies independently of one
other.
The
Colony
What
would you do if a global catastrophe was taking place? How would
you find food? Water? Shelter?
The Colony is a controlled experiment that will discover
what it takes to survive in a catastrophe. For 10 weeks, a
group of 10 volunteers, whose backgrounds and expertise represent
a cross-section of modern society, are isolated in an urban
environment outside Los Angeles and tasked with creating a
livable society.
Without electricity from the grid, running water or communication
with the outside world, all the volunteers have to work with
are their skills and whatever tools and supplies they can
scavenge from their surroundings.
Experts from the fields of homeland security, engineering
and psychology have helped design the world of The Colony
to reflect elements from both real-life disasters and models
of what the future could look like after a global viral outbreak.
Over the course of the 10-week experiment, the Colonists
must work together to build the necessities of survival, such
as a water-filtration system, a battery bank that powered
their electricity, a solar cooker, a shower system and a greenhouse
- and even some niceties (a coffee maker!).

Wild
Pacific
Wild
Pacific is made up of three-hour specials produced by the BBC
natural history unit that explore the largest ocean on Earth,
the isolation of its islands, and the extraordinary journeys
that wildlife and humans have gone through to reach these specks
of land. What does the future hold for the South Pacific? Introduced
species are running rampant; global warming and rising sea levels
will soon inundate islands; the ocean is being over-fished and
species like sharks are disappearing. But could the tide be
turning?
Deadliest
Catch
This
high definition, Emmy award winning series revolves around
the captains and crews of five crab-fishing vessels as they
go out on the Bering Sea to do one of the world's deadliest
jobs.
The men endure terrible weather including, subzero temperatures,
60-mph winds and four story high waves. They do this on
top of very little sleep while facing thousands of gallons
of water hitting the deck and freezing every 30 seconds.
Deckhands are forced to stop fishing and take several hours
to clear the ice off the deck with sledgehammers so that
the boat does not become top heavy and capsize. This is
all part of a typical episode of the Deadliest Catch.
After
the Catch
The captains from the Deadliest Catch get
together to share stories about their death-defying adventures
on the Bering Sea.
Out
of the Wild the Alaska Experiment
This
is an eight part series in which a group of nine amature
hikers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts attempt to survive
in one of least hospitable places in the world. They will
be pushed to their mental, physical and emotional limits
as they take on the challenge of a lifetime.
They begin with a three day training course in basic survival
skills, where they learn how to shoot a gun, skin an animal,
and start a fire without matches. After this they are dropped
off in the enterior of Alaska at Ttsuena Lake where they
were given the first part of a basic map, a compas and a
few basic tools along with the instruction to hike to civilization
before winter begins.
Throughout their monthlong adventure, they use their newly
learned skills to eat, survive and build shelter. The group
faces falling temperatures and dwindling daylight. They
were allowed to activate a GPS beacon if their lives were
in danger or they just wanted out and some took advantage
of this.
The group faces all of these difficulties not for a monetary
prize at the end, but just for the opportunity to change
the way they view thier live.
Time
Warp
MIT
Scientist and engineer, Jeff Lieberman, seemingly changes
the lens of time to reveal new astonishing ways of seeing
the world. Time Warp allows viewers to see and appreciate
things that happen too quickly or too slowly to normally
be detected. Lieberman shows what really happens with every
crack and break by using state of the art equipment and
editing techniques. Every seemingly simple accourance such
as lighting a match stick can be broken down to show what
is really happening.
Do you know how your dog drinks with its tounge? How exactly
a face contorts when punched by a UFC contender? What happens
when an egg falls into the moving blades of a fan? Or an
apple is hit with a bullet?
You probably do not have an idea with nothing but your
naked eye to guide you, but now you can fully appreciate
what our senses limit us from enjoying.
Mythbusters
Mythbusters
is a popular discovery channel series that tackles urban legends
with science.
Team members Tory Belleci, Kari Bryon and Grant Imahara pair
the scientific method with curiosityand ingenuity in thier
signature style of explosive experiementation. The team members
have backgrounds in animatronics, robotics, model building
and prototyping. These abilities help them create whatever
it takes to test a myth. Their ultimate goal is to find out
if a myth will be proven true or if it will be busted.
Pitchmen
Billy
Mays and Anthony "Sully" Sullivan are two of the
most sucessful pitchmen in the world. They are able to convince
you that their products are ones that you can not live without.
They have sold millions of cleaners, sweepers, kitchen gadgets
and other miracle products to people everywhere. On this
show they search the world for inventions to sell. Find
out all about clever inventors and the equally bright merchants
who sell their products. Mays and Sully decide who will
be the next lucky inventors that get the opportunity to
have thier products marketed by the most sucessful pinchmen
in the world and have their lives changed forever. Will
their inventions be sucessfully marketed or will they fail?
Find out on Pitchmen.
Weaponizers
Two
teams of Waeponizers, master builders, turn ordinary vehicles
into desructive remote-controlled machines. Live-ammunition
machine guns and other ordinary objects are added to the
vehicles to transform them into powerful weapons. The teams
have experience in hot rod restoration, pyrotechnics, special
effects, crash engeneering and military weaponry. They face
off to see which team can create an indestructable vehicle.
Each episode is filled with regular vehicles such as shuttle
buses, ice cream trucks, and muscle cars into vicious vehicles.
The teams construct and test their vehicles to ensure they
are powerful using science, special effects, engineering,
metal fabrication and a bit of fantasy. After the construction
and testing is finished the teams command thier vehicles
in an undergroup control bunker.
In the first round the teams are challenged as they race
to destroy or defend exploding targets. In the second round,
the Weaponizers compete in the Carmageddon Round, a gloves
off test of the teams expertise in which only one vehicle
is left standing.
