Drop Dead Diva

This new comedic drama series puts a unique twist on the battle between brains and beauty.

The show follows Deb, a beautiful-but-vapid model wannabe. After a fatal car accident she finds herself in front of Heaven's gatekeeper, Fred, who tells her she is a self-centered zero. She persuades Fred to return her to her shallow life, but is instead relegated to the body of the recently deceased Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliot). She is a brilliant, thoughtful, plus-sized attorney with a loyal assistant (Margaret Cho). Jane always lived in the shadow of her collegues, but Deb always relied on her external beauty. Now Deb must come to terms with being in a plus-sized body and determine what is best brains or beauty.

Drop Dead Diva Finale Review
by: Rebekah Miller

The season one finale of Drop Dead Diva is jam packed with lots of surprises. Deb has spent a lot of time in Jane’s body living out Jane’s life, but all of that may change. She has a lot of tough decisions to make dealing with her love life and her job.

Jane may have finally caught the eye of Grayson while she is also being pursued by a new guy in her life. She goes back and fourth trying to decide between the two which leads to a very hilarious dream sequence guest starring Paula Abdul. As always Jane’s roommate and best friend Stacy is there for support and advice. However, at the end someone from Jane’s past who may ruin all of her new relationship prospects shows up.

As if Jane’s personal life troubles were not enough, she also faces a tough ethical dilemma at work. Just when it seems like she is really making a great impression on her boss, something happens that throws everything off. There is not a dull moment during this season finale because Jane can’t seem to catch a break. In the end viewers are left wondering how everything will work out and waiting on the edge of their seats in hopes of hearing some dirt on Jane’s past.

Drop Dead Diva Premiere Review
by: Rebekah Miller

The basic premise has been done many times before like in Heaven Can't Wait or Down To Earth, where a person dies and then gets a second chance at life by being put in another persons body. Despite this, the show Drop Dead Diva is delightful and filled with both laughter and tears. A shallow beautiful model, Deb, dies and is accidentally put back on earth in the form of Jane, an overweight smart and thoughtful attorney.

Since it is an hour long show, the death of Deb and Jane could have been postponed for a little longer, rather than taking place within the first ten minutes. The viewer gets to know Deb more than Jane and it would have been nice to establish Jane's former self a little more before Deb takes over her body.

Deb must struggle to adjust to her new body and life while grieving the loss of her past life. Conveniently she gets Jane's brilliant mind along with her body so she does not have to struggle at her job. Brooke Elliot very convincingly plays a ditzy diva in the body of a plus-sized lawyer. She is surrounded by a great cast of actors including Margaret Cho who plays Jane's witty loyal assistant.

Drop Dead Diva does a great job balancing drama and comedy. There is sadness over Deb's loss of her former life and on top of that she must fight through stressful court cases. However, everything is laced with humor like when Deb asks her assistant for lip gloss rather than for the background on a case that she must deal with.

The series confronts body image issues by conveying that self perception and attitude can overcome looks. Drop Dead Diva is an entertaining and cute take on the "it is what's inside that counts" message. It will be great for mothers and daughters to watch together.

Cook Yourself Thin

This show helps viewers give their favorite treats a healthy makeover while doubbling the flavor and cutting calories.

It is based on the British series and popular cookbook. Culinary experts Harry Eastwood, Allision Fishman and Candice Kumai help guests lose their unwanted inches by replacing their diet plans with clever cooking. Each episode focuses on one guest as she learns how to transform her favorite fattening meals into delicious healthy fare.

The meals get prepared step-by-step as the calorie count is compared to that of the original dish. The guest is sent home with everything necessary to make healthy changes in the kitchen. After six weeks of living the Cook Your Self Thin lifestyle each participant gets a progess check from the hosts.

New Adventures of Old Christine

Lifetime Television, the number one women's network, has acquired the exclusive off-net cable rights to Warner Bros. Television's critically acclaimed hit comedy The New Adventures of Old Christine, starring Emmy Award-winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus, in a deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

Under the terms of the agreement, Lifetime will have the exclusive cable rights to all 88 existing episodes of the program, as well as the exclusive cable rights to all episodes produced in future seasons. The comedy, for which Louis-Dreyfus won an Emmy in 2006 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and which won a Humanitas Prize in 2007, will make its off-net cable premiere on Lifetime in fall 2010.

"We couldn’t be more excited to bring The New Adventures of Old Christine to Lifetime," said JoAnn Alfano, Executive Vice President, Entertainment, Lifetime Networks. "The show is funny, modern, smart and relatable - a perfect fit for our brand. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is one of the most talented comedic actors of this - or any -generation."

"Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a television icon starring in a show that takes full advantage of her comedic sensibilities and which we know will strongly connect with Lifetime’s audience," said Ken Werner, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

Louis-Dreyfus stars in the shows as Christine Campbell, a divorced working mother who successfully juggles the daily stresses of motherhood and a business. Christine owns a womens 30-minute workout gym with her best friend, Barb. Her young son, Ritchie, attends a posh private school, where Christine endures frequent run ins with two snooty stay-at-home moms, Marly and Lindsay. Christine's twentysomething brother, Matthew, lives with her and serves as Ritchie's sometime babysitter. Christine gets along with her charming ex-husband, Richard, even better than when they were married, but her life got a lot more complicated when she met Richard’s new girlfriend: a nice, young, impossible-to-hate woman also named Christine - the "new" Christine. When it dawns on "old" Christine that Richard is moving on with his life, she decides it's time for her to take that same leap.

The New Adventures of Old Christine was created by Kari Lizer (Will & Grace), who executive produces along with Andy Ackerman (Seinfeld). The series also stars Clark Gregg (Iron Man) as Richard, Hamish Linklater (Fantastic Four) as Matthew, Trevor Gagnon (the upcoming Shorts) as Ritchie, Emily Rutherfurd (Will & Grace) as "New" Christine, Tricia O’Kelley (Gilmore Girls) as Marly, Alex Kapp Horner (Will & Grace) as Lindsay and Wanda Sykes (Curb Your Enthusiasm) as Barb. The series is from Kari's Logo Here in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The New Adventures of Old Christine acquisition is a component of Lifetime's ongoing strategy to aggressively expand its line-up of comedies. The Network's slate includes the original series Rita Rocks, starring Nicole Sullivan and slated to return for its second season later this year, and the recently picked-up sitcom Sherri (working title), with Sherri Shepherd (The View, 30 Rock); and the off-net programs Will & Grace, Reba and Frasier, as well as How I Met Your Mother, which will begin stripping on Lifetime in fall 2010.
