Summer
is here, and that means it's time to bring on the burgers!
Sure, Americans eat hamburgers year round, but when the weather
warms up so does our love of juicy burgers. In fact, the average
American eats 3 burgers per week, or 150 burgers per year.
At that rate, they better be good and more importantly, good
for you! Unfortunately, unless you're firing up the grill
at home, burgers can be catastrophic for your cholesterol,
blood pressure, and waistline.
Ordering a burger at a restuarant can put you back nearly
2,000 calories and over 100 grams of fat! Some also have nearly
3 days worth of the recommended sodium intake and trans fat!
If you're watching your diet in any way, you'll want to avoid
these suckers...
The 10 worst burgers in America:
Cheesecake Factory's Classic Burger
1,440 calories
28g satuated fat
1635 mg sodium
This "classic" burger, weighing in at over 1,400
calories, doesn't even have cheese on it! This is one of the
most deceiving burgers on the list. Who would think a classic
burger without cheese is going to rack up those kind of numbers?
Eat the fries that come along side of it and you're looking
at 1,900 calories and loads of extra fat.
Denny's Smokin' Q Three Pack
2,020 calories
110 g fat (22 g saturated, 3 g trans)
3,570 mg sodium
Smaller does not mean better, at least not when there are
three of them! These mini-burgers are topped with both bacon
and onion crispers, and served with a greasy pile of onion
rings on the side! Don't be fooled by the mini burgers!
Applebee's Quesadilla Burger
1,420 calories
104 g fat (43 g saturated, 3 g trans)
3,740 mg sodium
Eat one of these "burgers" and it will set you
back nearly an entire day's worth of calories, about twice
the recommended amount of fat, and more saturated fat, trans
fat and sodium than you're supposed to have in a day.
Ruby Tuesdays Bacon Cheddar Minis (4 Burgers)
1358 calories
86g fat
75g carbohydrates
More mini-madness! At least this time you get 4 burgers for
even less calories than Denny's dish, but still, this is a
terribly deceiving meal. Unless you're sharing this 4-pack
with friends, it's not going to slide.
Red Robin A.1. Peppercorn Burger
1,433 calories
97 g fat
5,618 mg sodium
This might be the saltiest burgers of them all with 5,618
mg of sodium - nearly two and a half days worth of recommended
sodium! It's loaded with deep fried onions, contributing to
the ridiculously high fat and calorie content. This is a heart-attack
waiting to happen.
Hardee's 2/3 Pound Monster Thickburger
1420 calories
108g fat (43g saturated)
2,770mg sodium
46g carbohydrates
With this one, you should know what you're getting into. Anything
that has "Monster" in the name of the burger means
you should probably avoid it if you want your pants to fit.
Ruby Tuesday Triple Prime Havarti Burger
1,465 calories
116 g fat
2,404 mg sodium
Don't be fooled into thinking "triple prime" means
better, and certainly not healthier. It's just another calorie
monster from Ruby Tuesdays, loaded with fat, sodium and way
too many calories!
Denny's Double Cheeseburger
1,540 calories
116g fat (52g saturated, 7g trans)
3,880mg sodium
Another disaster from Denny's that tricks you into thinking
it's not that bad. A double cheeseburger at McDonalds or other
fast-food restaurant is usually around 400-500 calories, but
not at Denny's! This baby has as many calories as 4 Mcdonald
Double Cheeseburgers, and has the highest amount of trans
fat on this list.
Chili's Jalapeno Smokehouse Bacon Burger
1,750 calories
123 g fat (40 g saturated)
5,250 mg sodium
There goes your calories for the day! If you're watching
anything in regard to your health, avoid this burger at all
costs. It has 2 days worth of sodium and fat!
Cheesecake Factory Ranch House Burger
1,941 calories
48 g saturated fat
2,877 mg sodium
This is no "house burger". It is, however, one
of the worst burgers out there. Sauteed onions and mushrooms,
cheese, bacon and ranch sauce contribute to the entire days
worth of calories if you're maintaining your weight, and a
whole lot more if you're trying to cut calories. The average
healthy adult shouldn't consume more than 20 grams of saturated
fat a day, and this burger has 48! YIKES
There you have it - worst of the worst! Avoid these bad boys
and you'll save yourself some serious regret in the morning!
