Billy Boy On Poison PCM Interview

Billy Boy On Poison
Davis Leduke, lead singer of the band Billy Boy On Poison, took some time to answer a few questions from PCM's interviewer Kristyn Clarke! The band's debut album "Drama Junkie Queen" will be released in July 2009. For more info visit the Billy Boy On Poison MySpace Page!

Q: Can you share with our site readers a little history behind Billy Boy On Poison?

Davis Leduke: How did you guys meet and begin playing together? Well......most of us met at a Middle School in the San Fernando Valley. Jes (the drummer) is my cousin and I asked her to move here from Colorado. We tweaked it a little here and there, went through a couple of changes and settled on the current group.

Q: How would you best describe your music to a first time listener?

D.L.: We play blues influenced riff rock with a British twist. We call it "elephant rock!"

Q: Who would you list as some of your main musical influences?

D.L: The Stones, Stooges, QOTSA, Jack White and the Beatles

Q: Where did the name Billy Boy On Poison originate from?

D.L: One of my favorite books and films is "A Clockwork Orange." There's a part in it where a girl is getting raped in a church. I love irony of that and the narrator says "Well if it isn't ole billy goat, billy boy in poison?" I changed the word to "on" because we are!

Q: Where do you see the future of music heading and where do you see yourselves fitting into that picture?

D.L: Off the internet and back on to the turntable! I think there will be one last explosion of good music and then music is going to change. We hope to be at the forefront of the last explosion.

Q: What is the writing process like for you? What types of situations inspire you artistically?

D.L: Usually someone comes in with a riff or a chordal idea and we all contribute. Other times we might start from a place where the song is complete and we have definite direction for each part. Long van rides, industry gigs and wing tip shoes inspire us.

Q: How did it come about that you were signed to Kiefer Sutherland's Ironworks label?

D.L: His partner saw us in a club and the next day I went down and met with them. I had an instant connection to Kiefer and their excitement was awesome. Before I left that day they said they wanted to work with us and put our music out straight away.

Q: Can you describe what the experience was like the first time you heard your song "On My Way" featured in Gossip Girl and now the "Entourage" preview?

D.L: Stuff like that is super surreal and always catches us off guard. I don't really watch tv so usually a friend or someone tells me about it. The Entourage spots are so fricking cool! We got teased a bit about the Gossip Girl ones.

Q: With the album release coming up in early July, what kinds of touring do you have planned for the late summer/ fall?

D.L: We're playing several of the radio festivals and smaller shows around the country. We hear we may be going to the UK for a while too and we're playing a huge rock festival in Japan!

Q: What do you guys enjoy doing in your spare time?

D.L.: Lots of different stuff like reading, hanging out with friends, going to movies, jamming

Q: If you could share the stage with any one band or performer, who would that be and why?

D.L: I think right now Jack White because his fans would get our music.

Q: Just for fun: If you could take any 3 items to a deserted island, what would they be?

D.L: Well you said "for fun" so a girl (not that that's an item) a guitar and a bag of weed!

Q: How do you feel about the use of MySpace and other social networking sites as a way to promote and connect with fans?

D.L: On one level its cool to have such easy access to the fans and on another level, there's something very disposable about being so accessible to anyone.

Q: What are you hoping that listeners take away from your album?

D.L: Fun, sex and anticipation!

Q: What is next on the horizon? Where can our readers find out more info about Billy Boy On Poison?

D.L: Touring, touring, recording, writing and touring. We hear we might do a residency in the UK|Europe. You can find out more at www.billyboyonpoison.co.uk , www.billyboyonpoison.com, etc

Q: Any final message or comments you would like to share?

D.L: Please buy our record!
