Heidi Klum Interview

PCM's Kristyn recently got a chance to be apart of a conference call with Heidi Klum, where the latest season of Project Runway was discussed.

Project Runway is entering it's 8th season and third season on Lifetime. The show involves a group of up-and-coming designers who are competing for a chance to show a collection at Fashion week in New York City, a monetary prize to help create their line, and a new car. Each week the contestants take part in challenges where they have to create a look that will be judged by Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, Michael Kors, and usually a guest judge.

Heidi Klum has been one of the faces and judges of Project Runway for the past seven seasons and is returning for the eighth. A famed model, she is married to singer, Seal, and has 4 children. Her modeling resume includes publications and companies such as Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret.

Kristyn managed to find out her secret to keeping her busy life together. Her answer was simply "planning. I have become a good planner." She also mentioned that when she is doing Project Runway she actually has more free time to do stuff with her family in New York City than people would think.

Conversation revolved mostly around the upcoming 8th season of Project Runway.

When asked whether the show was going to have a new format, Heidi said "We have 30 more minutes now…we might show more Q&A and deliberation"

The part of each season she looks forward to most is "seeing what [the designers] are really made out of." She said that during the preliminary auditions, you never know if the designers really made their clothes or not.

Another one of her favorite parts of the show is seeing "what [the designers] are wearing themselves. You can feel their sense of style brought into their clothes."

This season there will be 17 designers and Kristyn asked her what the challenges did having more designers pose. Klum said they "had a challenge before they move in and whoever does not make it past, does not move in to the apartment."

Heidi mentioned that some of the guest judges this season will be "Betsey Johnson, Philip Traecy, and Selma Blair." Her ideal guest judge for the future would be "Michelle Obama."

After seven seasons, Heidi said that she thinks viewers keep tuning in because people "admire people who can make things with their hands" and that "[Project Runway] is not about cattiness or a gimmick. We don't give [the designers] lines."

She also mentioned that it is very hard to keep the show fresh. They come up with new challenges for the most part. This season the contest have to "make an outfit to go with [Philip Treacy's] hats."

One question she would not give a straight answer for was which designers to watch for in the beginning. All she commented was that there are "5 or 6 designers that stand out."
