Q: I know your debut album
is set to drop on June 2nd, how excited are you for the
release?
Mitchel Musso: Very, very excited, you know this is something
brand new for me because I have done acting all of my life.
I have always had a passion for music, being around it growing
up because my parents have been in musical theater for about
25 years and my older brother is a musical genius, and my
little brother is an amazing musician as well. I have always
had this passion for music, but I was always the one to
do the acting because I didn't want to take the spotlight
away from my older brother because he really wanted to be
the musician. You know I was like, "That's fine! You
be the musician and I'll be the actor" . Now he's a
superstar and an amazing, phenomenal writer/ artist in his
band Metro Station, doing huge tours, selling out shows
everywhere, so he was like "Dude, you gotta do music,
because I want to do songs with you now". That is how
we were growing up, we always wrote music together. We learned
the basics of ProTools and Logic together when we were really
young and we loved being the mixers and engineers behind
songs. I am very happy where I am now, I have a record dropping
on June 2nd and a LiveNation tour coming up playing a lot
of club venues. I wanted to keep a bit more on the quiet
scale, so I could still reach out to people. I am also going
to tour a little bit with Mason, who also I also collaborated
with on a track for my album called "Shout It",
which is a bit of a play on his huge hit "Shake It"
with Metro Station. Music has definitely taken over my life
and I very happy with where it is going for sure!
Q: What did you enjoy the most about
recording your album?
MM: I think overall, it was just the writing and the choosing
process, because we wrote over 40 songs in a two month period,
so we had to choose 10 songs and one bonus track, so 11
in total for the album….that was one of the most fun parts.
Also, just creating the music in general and coming up with
the ideas for the songs. The ability to sing the songs and
put my own little spin on things was great as well. I think
the coolest part about music in general is not just making
the music, but touring because what people don't understand
is that when you are on a TV show, the fans are so sweet,
they come up to you almost like you are their best friends
because they grow up watching us on TV and they think that
we are like brothers pretty much, and feel like I see him
everyday, he is like part of my family, they will run up
an hug me because they feel that close. We never get to
see the kids being on TV so that is what is so cool about
touring, we actually get to go out and interact with the
fans, meet them and sign for them. We get a chance to show
them that we support them just as much as they support us!
Q: I am sure you must get recognized
all the time from "Hannah Montana" . How are you
dealing with the teen heart-throb status and the teen girl
fans?
MM: It is awesome and the fans are awesome! It has actually
been easier the past couple days because I chopped off all
my hair and dyed it black, so I have been getting noticed
too much lately. I just played Wango Tango the other day,
everybody went crazy and it was awesome. It was like a rock
show and I was jumping with the crowd, everyone was singing
the music, it was a great time!
Q:
How would you describe your music to a first time listener?
MM: It is kind of funny because a lot of
people have definitely heard songs and music by me on the
channel and Radio Disney, but my album is so different from
what they have heard which are the main songs "Three
is the Magic Number" which is all about recycling and
the "In Crowd" which is all about not fitting
in, but who cares; be your own person. My album has such
a different sound than those songs, and I just can't wait
for people to hear it. I don't like to put myself into a
certain genre, but if I absolutely had to, it would be a
electro-dance-rock sound.
Q: What is one piece of advice you
would give to someone who is looking to get into music and
acting?
MM: Don"t (laughs) No, seriously...if it is your dream
than go for it and if it is someone else's dream than don't
. Do what you want to do...that is what it is all about!
Q: Between the acting and music, what
do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
MM: I am a normal teenager. I like jumping in my car and
cruising around, going to parties, hanging out with friends,
grabbing something to eat...normal teenager stuff.
Q: Just for fun, what is your favorite guilty pleasure song?
MM: "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" from The
Darkness. That song was ridiculous and the video was even
more ridiculous, but great song!
Q: I see you have the SayNow phone
number on your MySpace page, how does that whole thing work?
Have you gotten any crazy messages yet?
MM: I think SayNow is just as cool, if not cooler than Twitter.
I love Twitter and I think it is absolutely amazing, but
with SayNow I love how you can call in and users can hear
your voice as if you were right there and it is a very cool
way to connect with the fans. The fans are the backbone
behind any celebrity in Hollywood and I like to give as
much as they give!
Q:
What are you hoping that fans take away from your album?
MM: Ultimately, I just want people to hear the music. I
want to be at my concert and see all the fans there because
I never get to see them due to working behind the camera,
I think touring in general is the best part. However they
can hear the music and hopefully enjoy it and then come
out to a show and interact with me to be a part of everything.
We will have a concert together, that is what I hope they
take from the music. Listen to the songs, I hope everyone
enjoys it ! I am having a great time, everyone has been
so sweet and so open to let me be a part of this little
event that we are doing. I am not playing a character anymore,
I am just being Mitchel!
Q: Well, we certainly wish you all
the success with the album release and tour and will stayed
tuned to find out what is next for you!
MM: Thank you so, so, much!
Q: Thank you for taking the time out
to speak with us today.
