Interview with Shiny Toy Guns

(May 2009) - PCM's Kristyn spoke to Jeremy Dawson from the band Shiny Toy Guns. Their album, Season of Poison, is available in stores and online now. Not familiar with the band?

Their cover of Peter Shillings song 'Major Tom' (1983) is presently featured on the new commercial for the Lincoln MKZ model car. They were one of the first 300 bands on MySpace when it first started years ago, too! They anticipated how a great social networking site like MySpace could get the word out about their music!

We caught up with a band at a venue in Baltimore, Maryland before their show. Jeremy shared his thoughts about social networking sites, writing, touring and more with PCM! He was even nice enough to show us some of his tattoos while we sat with him before his set (sorry, no pics of that, fans!) Check out their MySpace page for more information about the band and to catch them touring this summer at a venue near you!

Q: Do you guys maintain all your social networking pages?

A: "Ha! It's a nightmare! We have a bunch. But we do it."

Q: I saw on some of the pages that you are even helping fans get into your shows through them. How does that work?

A: "We do that specifically for people, because we're on tour with bands like All-American Rejects and big bands with younger crowds, we have an older crowd that wonder why tickets are so much and are sold out. We want to help fans that want to see us. People write to us and express that they want to see us and they can't. We actually invited a whole family out yesterday to a show!"

Q: How would you best describe your sound?

A: "It's across all genres. I'd stick with forward rock. Our next album that we're writing that will be out later this year is a lot more electronic. I would say an EP will probably be out during the fall. One song would be cool, an EP, an album, hey, who knows. You just have to sit there and play the slots until we stop and get something and say, "Hey, this is cool.""

Q: What inspires you artistically?

A: "People. Everyone is so unique and predictable. Predictable and unpredictable at the same time. You can find out so much about someone and why they does things by talking to them. Watching people impact each other is the best thing."

Q: What has life on the road been like for you? You guys have been all over the place lately!

A: "The routing of a tour never makes sense. We're all over the place. If every venue we wanted to play was in a perfect line, that's almost impossible."

Q: What are three essential albums you'd take with you on a deserted island?

A: "Right now? Oh gosh, "Dark Side Of The Moon, " "Jesus Jones Liquidizer," and "The Lightening Seeds," I'm a 90s kid.
