Interview with The Veer Union

(May 2009) - PCM's Kristyn Clarke spoke to Crispin Earl from the young Canadian rock group, The Veer Union. Crispin helped form the band in 2004 and they've been rockin' ever since! Their latest single is even featured as the theme song for WWE's BackLash which has been very exciting for the band!

Check out the complete Q&A interview we held with Cripsin to learn all about this new band. He's a very down to earth and smary young musician that we truly enjoyed talking to.

If you're a fan of rock music, we're sure you'll like The Veer Union. Check out their MySpace page! They have an have an extensive tour schedule through the months of May and June 2009 that will keep them busy! Their album, Against The Grain, is now in stores and available online!

Q: Can you share with our site readers a little bit about the history behind the band and how you all met and began playing together?

A: "We are all originally from Vancouver and we were playing in different bands. In the bands we were playing in, we just weren't having fun. That's how we came up with our name in some ways, 'veer' means to change direction. I was good friends with Eric and did a lot of co-writing with him. We wrote a song together one day on a beach and thought that we needed to quit our other bands and get together and form a new band. We went back to playing music for the right reasons, because we loved it and went back to where we first originally wanted to be."

Q: How would you best describe your music to a first time listener?

A: "The simple answer is that we are a rock band. At the end of the day, the type of rock band that we are is a band that's true to what we do and be as realistic as we possibly can be about things that have happened in our lives. It's difficult to make it in any type of buisness but we're just trying to keep it real and have an honest record. We got really lucky that we have a great label that lets us do that."

Q: How excited for you for the release of your album, 'Against The Grain?'

A: "Oh man, we're so excited. We can't wait. We worked so hard on it and we are really excited to get it out there and hopefully people connect with it. I hope people believe in it as much as we do."

Q: Any touring plans for the spring and summer?

A: "Yeah, we've got a lot of things going on. We are going to be on tour with Hinder for the next couple months and there will be some cool things coming up after that. We are definitely a band that loves to be on the road. The most memorable story of us on the road happened last night. The guys from Hinder invited us into the studio and we sang backup on some of their songs so they actually invited us on stage during their show and we shared the stage with them. It was awesome."

Q: Your band is involved in some great causes to try to bring music back into schools, how did you become involved with that?

A: "Well actually it's kind of how we started. We came into the U.S. and met a guy that was putting tours together to promote and teach music in schools. Many schools are removing their music programs. We all thought that if we didn't have music programs in our schools, we wouldn't be doing what we're doing now. It was very fitting. It's a cause we believe in because it relates to us and how we got started. It's something we want to stick with and continue to support."

Q: What are you hoping fans take away from the album?

A: "I hope that people listen to it and just completely get it and think to themselves, 'I know exactly what this guy is trying to say.' It's an honest, real record that we tried to make and I hope they get that."

Q: To wrap things up and ask a just for fun question, what is your favorite guilty pleasure song?

A: "The Justin Timberlake song with T.I. - I love that song! (laughs) That's a good one."
