Richie confirms pregnancy
August 2007 - Nicole Richie sat
down with Diane Sawyer and finally confirmed rumors
that she is four months pregnant. "Yes I am.
We are," she tells ABC, referring to boyfriend and
Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden.
Richie also spoke about her pending jail
sentence, which she must complete by Sept. 28. "I
will be really happy once I have done my jail time,"
Richie said. "I can start fresh." Her father,
Lionel Richie, also commented that he believes it is a "fair
standard sentence."
Richie sentenced to
4 days in jail
July 2007 - Nicole Richie pleaded
guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence
of drugs July 27th. She was sentenced to 4 days in jail,
one of which she already served when she was arrested. She
was also fined $2,048 and will be on probation
for three years. Superior Court Commissioner Steven
K. Lubell told Richie she will be imprisoned for one year
if she violates probation.
Richie must complete her jail sentence by
September 28, and she was informed she may serve it in either
a city or a county jail. She must also enter a drug and
alcohol program and complete it by February 20, 2008.
Lubell said the Department of Motor Vehicles
may decide to suspend her license, but that she must not
drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol or without
a license.
"You are very lucky that no one was hurt
of killed as the result of this incident," Lubell said.
Richie was arrested on December 11 after witnesses reported
she was driving on the wrong way of a freeway in Burbank.
Richie told police at the time she had smoked marijuana and
taken the painkiller Vicodin. It was her second conviction;
the first was for a DUI in June 2003.
Nicole's DUI trial
postponed for a second time
July 2007 - Although her DUI trial
was scheduled to begin July 11th, Nicole Richie got
another reprieve. Her trial has been rescheduled for August
16th, as defense attorney Shawn Holley said his witness
on drugs was unavailable at the earlier date.
Richie was arrested December 11, 2006 for
driving the wrong way down an L.A. freeway. She told officers
she was under the influence of marijuana and the painkiller
Vicodin.
Richie could face up to a year in prison for
the charges, raising the possibility that she could give
birth to her first child while in jail.
Nicole Richie Pregnant,
Engaged
July 2007 - Nicole Richie became
tabloid fodder once again as she showed off a possible baby
bump in recent months. Several sources, including Star!
Magazine, announced the rumors were true, and that Nicole
and Joel Madden are engaged. Nicole and Joel have
not confirmed reports, and Lionel Richie claims to
not know if she is, indeed, expecting.
Nicole Richie avoids
water in order to make an appearance at the local hospital
March 2007 - Everyone's favorite Simple Life
star Nicole Richie was hospitalized on Friday
for dehydration. The reality show star "took ill"
while filming on Frida. After being examined by a doctor
on set, Richie was rushed to a nearby hospital and received
intravenous fluids for 15 minutes before being released.
Richie's publicist released the following statement in
regars to the incident: "Nicole is home resting and
will return to work this evening. We are proud of the weight
that Nicole is gaining and her focus on her health."
Here's a suggestion Nic, the next time you're thirsty, DRINK
SOME WATER. It's really much simplier than a trip to the
hospital.
Nicole and Joel saying
"I do"?
March 2007 - Nicole Richie may be facing
the possibility of jail time but that doesn't seem to be
the only thing on her mind these days, in fact she could
be planning a wedding. Nic has been spotted recently wearing
a fancy ring on her wedding ring finger. On top of
that, she and her Good Charlotte main squeeze Joel
Madden were recently seen at XIV Karats, a jewelry store
in LA, and the two are rumored to be house hunting.
Although these two have only been dating for a short time,
things seem to be getting pretty serious and we must admit
Nicole is looking healthier these days, so kudos to these
two.
Nicole will soon face
sentencing in her DUI case
January 2007 - Nicole Richie has been formally
charged with a DUI (misdemeanor driving under the influence)
stemming from her arrest on December 11, 2006. The California
vehicle code specifies that if convicted of DUI twice within
10 years, a person can be sentenced to between 90 days and
a year in jail, fined between $390 and $1,000, and have
driving privileges suspended. Arraignment has been scheduled
for Feb. 21 in suburban Glendale Superior Court. Richie,
who starred in the TV reality show "The Simple Life"
with on again bff Paris Hilton, does not have to appear
because it is a misdemeanor case. Reports have surfaced
recently that Richie is very scared and worried about the
prospect that she could do time in the slammer and she has
been seeking advice from pal Paris Hilton (who has
experience in the DUI department, she was arrested and convicted
earlier this year). Maybe she can ask Britney Spears
for advice next, it only seems logical.
