Paul Marturano:
Paula Abdul's American Idol 'Stalker'

(June 25, 2008) Update - Ever wonder what the infamous American Idol stalker has been up to these days? Think he's still stalking Paula Abdul? PCM's Joe spoke to Paul Marturano about using new found celebrity for a good cause. He's shot a music video that's now available on iTunes and the portion of the sales had gone to the charity Idol Gives Back. It was Paul's way of saying thank you to American Idol for his fifteen minutes of fame! He's even got his own ringtone now and a couple TV pitches in the works for shows that Paul may appear in!

Sadly, Paul hasn't heard from Paula since the American Idol try-out. He did reveal to Joe that he's thinking of someone new to stalk, either Reese Witherspoon or Drew Barrymore. Oh, boy!

(January 15, 2008) - Paul Marturano is the man of the hour. He's what the latest American Idol buzz is about. If you missed it, you can always enter the words, "American Idol Stalker," into YouTube and check out his audition in front of the judges. He's been the highlight of the Season 7 thus far and audiences have been pretty miffed over his wacky performance. Even Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul seemed fairly disturbed after this man's song.

He's been interviewed nonstop for the past twenty-four hours and has appeared on radio stations across the country. And you guessed it; PCM scrambled to talk to THE American Idol Stalker, Paul Marturano! (Turns out, he's not the weirdo everyone thinks he is either!)
- Julie, Pop Culture Madness Interviewer

(The video is below the interview)

J: Hi Paul! How are you?

P: I am exhausted!

J: I can imagine! Everybody wants to talk to you.

P: Well, thank you. It's amazing, I am thrilled.

J: What are you thinking of all this attention? Is it welcomed? Is it bizarre?

P: Oh, it's completely welcomed. I'm a musician and I also have a musical comedy duo and I'm just excited to get my music out there through this now!

J: So how did you get into that whole realm of musical comedy?

P: I've been playing the piano since I was three years old and I've been playing guitar and writing songs since age ten... actually, do you mind if I eat during this? (LAUGHS) It's actually been that crazy today that I really haven't had time.

J: Have you just been getting phone call after phone call?

P: Yes! Between yesterday and today, I must have done in between 50-100 radio station interviews.

J: Wow!

P: So you don't mind if I talk with my mouth full then, do you?

J: No, no, I understand! So, how does it feel to be labeled, "The American Idol Stalker?" That's how we found you on YouTube!

P: I think it's hilarious!

J: We saw Access Hollywood's clip about how, "Paula may be in danger!" and "Paula is freaked out!" They were definitely trying to sell it by explaining how you were quickly removed by security and were a possible threat!

P: (laughs)

J: When we first saw the video of your audition here, we weren't sure what to think. We didn't know if it was an act or if you were serious? Do you find that people interviewing you understand now that it really was all in fun or that you were serious?

P: Well, I think that a lot of people can appreciate the comedy and the song writing. The whole act. Whereas others don't have the same sense of humor, I guess.

J: Was Simon really that worried? Or is he as mean as people say?

P: I wasn't able to ask him. (laughs) But, I don't know. He may have been or he may have just decided that he was going to play it that way. I can't tell one way or another.

J: What happened after security escorted you out of the room that we see on TV?

P: I pulled out a fake yellow ticket and screamed, "I'm going to Hollywood!" Everyone went crazy and then Ryan Seacrest came up to talk to me. He looked at the ticket and I started singing another crazy comedy song to him. And then security took really took me out.

J: (laughs) We were talking in our office and wondering what happened to you and how the people at the auditions dealt with it. Most people are so serious about those auditions and making their dream of being a singer. So it was nice to see that someone was playing American Idol a little bit.

J: We found you through MySpace, have your MySpace hits gone up a lot since the show?

P: Yeah, everything's been crazy! My website is www.paulpiano.net also. There's a ton of stuff there about my musical comedy duo called The Hairy Aureolas and about some of the animal rescue work I do.

J: Great! Do you have any upcoming shows?

P: Well, I am going to kind of sit back and see what happens and then start booking more shows in a month just because of all the attention now.

J: Will dates be listed on your MySpace and that site?

P: Yes, of course!

J: Well, thank you so much, Paul! Go eat your lunch and try to relax a little bit before the next phonecall!

P: Thank you so much, thanks!

The American Idol Stalker The Official Music Video...no budget, but funny nonetheless!
