Adam Ferrara

Adam Ferrara: The Pop Culture Madness Interview
by: Bernadette Giacomazzo

When you first speak with Adam Ferrara, you're immediately intrigued: despite having some prime roles in such hit shows as The King of Queens, Law and Order, and Rescue Me, and some plum roles in major films such as Definitely, Maybe (with Ryan Reynolds), and Winter of Frozen Dreams (with Thora Birch and Dean Winters; in the interest of full disclosure, this writer served in a music supervisory role for the film, and provided the song "December" by Tracy Johnson to the closing credits), there is nothing in the least bit Hollywood about him. And it's this down-to-Earth Nu Yawka attitude, combined with his knack for finding humor in the most mundane aspects of everyday life, that is his most endearing quality.

He is quick to reminisce about his early days on the comedy circuit, and cites his long-time friendships with some of Hollywood's funniest actors and most infamous celebrities as a constant inspiration for his consistently funny and solid work. Take, for example, his relationship with Anthony Cumia, better known as "Anthony" of the raunchy radio duo Opie and Anthony. "I've known him since high school," Ferrara recalls of their shared Long Island childhood. "He was doing air conditioning, and I was digging holes for a fence company."

From this auspicious meeting, the duo developed a quick and lasting friendship that brought the two of them to career pinnacles. "Even when we were younger, we were always doing creative things together. He was in a band, and I would do lighting for that band."

Today, Ferrara makes frequent appearances on both the "terrestrial" and satellite versions of the popular radio show, and consistently receives a warm welcome from the entire show, though he admits he "doesn't get to go in as much as he'd like." Or, for example, his relationship with Kevin James, whom he currently stars alongside in Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

Ferrara is excited to announce that the family movie is the number one movie in America for the second week in a row, but gets even more excited when he talks about all the fun he had with his former King of Queens co-star. "Kevin James and I have known each other for years. We got to race Segways in the mall in the middle of the night," he says. "How much fun is that?"
