Comic Book Heroes

Comic Book Heroes: The PCM Interview
By: Bernadette Giacomazzo

In the modern-day music world, if the Jonas Brothers are The Beatles, Comic Book Heroes are the Rolling Stones -- a simple rock band inspired less by pretty pop and more by dirty rock'n'roll.

"We're just a straightforward rock band, with roots in classic rock," said guitarist Ned Goldman, who is also the lead singer and plays the keyboard in Comic Book Heroes. "We have our roots in classic rock, and we have a bit of a modern flair as well." Goldman cites his influences as Bruce Springsteen and The Black Keys, whereas drummer Collin MacGregor cites his influences as The Kinks, The Who, and -- naturally -- The Rolling Stones.

Comic Book Heroes are four high school juniors based in Reading, PA. They came together when they were just 11 yrs old to perform for a school talent show. By the time they reached 7th grade they landed their first monthly house gig and started writing originals; self-releasing their first EP in March 2006.

Since that time, CBH has emerged as one of the most promising young rock bands; playing hundreds of shows for thousands of people across the country including CMJ, MMC, Texas Rock Fest, IPO, Six Flags amusement parks, festivals, benefits and of course many, many rock clubs. "We do most of our touring during the summer," said Goldman, "when we don't have school. We practice throughout the year, though."

CBH has shared the stage with many diverse acts such as Foghat, SmashMouth, REO Speedwagon and Jealousy Curve. The band has licensed several songs to MTV, and have appeared on CN8, PBS, 6/ABC and on Nickelodeon's Noggin channel in a music video for the 2008 Emmy nominated show Jack's Big Music Show.

Comic Book Heroes latest EP, 'Take A Seat' was produced by Jimmy Landry for Audiostrike and released in August 2008. The single 'Catch Me if You Can' won first place on OurStage in the rock category and is getting airplay on internet and terrestrial radio; climbing Clear Channel's unsigned band charts.

Currently, Comic Book Heroes can be heard on Radio Disney's Next Big Thing. For more details, visit http://radio.disney.go.com/artists/nbt/index.html.
