Rosie Thomas - These Friends
of Mine

Review By discconnected
Believe it or not, not every that came out of Seattle
in the last decade sounded like Nirvana. Take Rose Thomas,
for example. She toured with the band Velour 100, an
ethereal rock band in the late 1990's before deciding
to go it solo. Her latest release is "These Friends
Of Mine," and a promotional copy was forwarded
to me for a listen so now you gotta suffer through my
mental emissions on this album.
Rosie has a voice that projects vulnerability amid the
gentle chords and quiet snare drums. Joined by fellow
indie partners-in-crime Sufjan Stevens and Denison Witmer,
Rosie composes introspective ballads that blend elements
of pop, folk and country while laying out a straightforward
emotional theme.
High points for me were the stripped down cover of REM's
"The One I Love" and the piano ballad "All
The Way To New York City." With it's soft, lyrical
and comforting music, this disc is a real treasure. |
