Warpaint is a new L.A-based band comprised of Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman and Jenny Lee Lindberg, who are captivating audiences with their otherworldly sound - a mix of genres including psychedelic, shoegaze, post-punk, and folk. They truly shine on the feminine yet dark EP Exquisite Corpse. Its six tracks will leave you utterly spellbound.

Opening track "Stars" emerges as if from misty waters, with haunting vocals that ask dreamily, "Oh wonderful one, why are you like that?" The song drifts through hazy guitar riffs and harmonies into "Elephants," which greets the listener with an arpeggio of radiant electronics, slowly brewing into a whirlwind of distortion, heavy bass, and soaring vocals. Then, the album mellows out with "Billie Holiday," which has the girls breathily spelling the jazz singer's name over and over, as if in humble worship to an idol, and floating in and out of a wistful cover of 1964 Motown hit "My Guy." Warpaint then goes wandering on "Beetles," abruptly shifting tempos between a high-pitched ardor and ethereal tangents. The final two tracks are variations on the same theme that are well-reflected by their titles: "Burgundy" is drowsier and darker,while "Krimson" is more fast-paced and passionate, ending the album in a beautiful, beckoning farewell.

When it ends, you may have difficulty dispelling Exquisite Corpse's melodies from your head - they'll haunt you for days afterward. Keep your eyes open for these girls, because you'll definitely want to hear more.
