Cast
CLAUDE LELOUCH - Director
Claude Lelouch was born in Paris in 1937. It is often said that he was born
with a film camera in his hands. The cinema has always been a love affair for
him which explains his proclivity for filmmaking - including more than 30
full-length features, television films and 150 commercials. Lelouch is a people's filmmaker in the best sense of the word whose films have been met with great success and international recognition including the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film and the Cannes' Palme d'Or for UN HOMME ET UNE FEMME - A MAN AND A WOMAN in 1966.

DOMINIQUE PINON
One of the busiest and more popular French actors working today, Dominique
Pinon is known for his uncanny ability to portray an incredibly wide variety of
characters on screen. Pinon was first noticed for his role as a cynical killer in Jean-Jacques Beinex' cult film DIVA. In 1982, he was nominated for a César for Most Promising Actor for his performance in THE RETURN OF MARTIN GUERRE. He came to prominence in 1991 when Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro cast him in their hit film DELICATESSEN

FANNY ARDANT
A graceful performer of the screen and stage, Fanny Ardant is one of the
most prominent leading actresses in the world of European film. Ardant has been an elegant icon of French cinema since the television drama THE LADIES OF THE COAST (1979) turned her overnight into a household name. Soon afterwards she gained critical acclaim in Francious Truffaut's THE WOMAN NEXT DOOR (1981) and CONFIDENTIALLY YOURS (1983). A series of strong, passionate roles followed. In 2002, she starred in François Ozon's hugely popular EIGHT WOMEN which earned her a César Award nomination for Best Actress in addition to playing the title role of Maria Callas in Franco Zeffirelli's CALLAS FOREVER.

AUDREY DANA
Audrey Dana is an up-and-coming French-American actress who has
nurtured and diversified her talent in the realms of theater, television, and
film. In 2006, she jumpstarted her path into film by starring in Bernard Werber's NOS AMIS LES TERRIENS (OUR EARTHMEN FRIENDS), a faux-documentary about humans from the perspective of an extra-terrestrial race. Dana's performances continue to garner a warm critical reception - at the 2007 Prixe Lumieres in Paris, she earned a nomination for Best Female Newcomer for her role in ROMAN DE GARE (2007). Her most recent projects include Olivier Baroux's romantic comedy CE SOIR, JE DORS CHEZ TOI (2007) and Pascal Laethier's comedy DIFFERENCE C'EST QUE C'EST PAS PAREIL, LA, which is currently still in production.

Interview with Director

How did you cast your actors?
C. L.: I needed an icon. I needed someone believable for the character of Judith Ralitzer, someone who would have an aura of intelligence and whim. This role called for a star. Whereas casting stars for the two other roles would have been counterproductive. It would have been a disservice to the movie and spectators would have guessed too many things. With Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts, it would be too obvious. You know very well that if you put these two together, they're supposed to fall in love sooner or later. In this
specific movie the love story must remain completely unexpected. You can't
picture these two as a couple for a second.

Why did you choose Dominique Pinon and Audrey Dana?
C. L.: It's true that Dominique is not usually seen as a seducer. But, I wanted him to become attractive by the end of the movie. I wanted to cast light on this evolution, how one can be charming without good looks.
Appearance is valued too much in our society. People don't bother scratching
beneath the surface. Claude Goretta's La Dentellière also developed this theme.

Dominique Pinon has a solid resume but Audrey Dana is a newcomer, although she did star in Nos Amis les terriens by Bernard Weber, which you produced.
C. L.: This is how I discovered her. It took the most amazing detour to eventually choose this duo. It's not a choice that just appears in front of your eyes. I started with more famous people and then I gradually realized that it
didn't work with the script, that stardom would kill this script. I knew that choosing less popular actors would have a negative impact on the box office, but I chose to serve the film first… You had to be convinced by Audrey Dana from her very first line. This girl had to be annoying at the beginning of the movie and endearing by the end.

Is Audrey Dana a future femme fatale?
C.L.: Absolutely, and you can tell at the end of the movie: she already behaves like one. Pinon doesn't fall in love with the silly girl, he falls in love with the femme fatale.
