My Life with George: What I Learned about Joy from One Neurotic (and Very Expensive) Dog
Judith Summers

Review :

My Life with George: What I Learned about Joy from One Neurotic (and Very Expensive) Dog, is author Judith Summers' account of living with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Summers bought George soon after the death of her husband as a companion for both her and her young son Joshua. With little experience in dogs, summers was ill-prepared to bring the puppy home, and quickly realized taking care of George was a full-time job.

In My Life with George, Summers describes George's clinginess, his numerous mishaps and health problems and how the little dog chased off one of her boyfriends and basically took over her life. However, she also describes George's love and faithfulness and his part in helping Summers and her son cope with the death of her husband. She recounts a humerous tale of how upset George was when she broke up with a guy who fed George Chinese food and took him for rides in his fancy car.

The book is written as a series of short anecdotes, including George's attack by a bull terrier and his refusal to eat anything but roasted chicken. My Life with George is a light-hearted book for animal lovers. Although not nearly as captivating as John Grogan's Marley & Me, My Life with George is must for Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owners. Those who have lost a loved one, as Summers did, may also be touched by the story of George and how, despite his bad behavior, he won over his new family.
