The 6th Target
James Patterson & Maxine Paetro
Review:

No one can confuse James Patterson's books for great literature. But if you're looking for a page-turning suspense novel and a quick beach read, The 6th Target is not a bad option. It's a typical James Patterson, with very short chapters, lots of action, violence and gratuitous sex.

The 6th Target is Patterson's sixth book in his Women's Murder Club series, and it principally focuses on Lindsay Boxer from the San Francisco PD. While Boxer is often an infuriating character as far as her love life is concerned, she's always involved in the most interesting, dangerous cases - and this book is no different.

This time Boxer is trying to stop a series of deadly kidnappings while her friends Cindy, Claire and Yuki work to keep a madman behind bars after he shoots and kills four people on a ferry.

Like usual, the lives of members of the Women's Murder Club members are in peril, and all four must work together to stay safe and seek justice. Unfortunately, The 6th Target has less of the usual camaraderie and support between Lindsay, Claire, Yuki and Cindy than the prior books in the series. Additionally, the three plots seem a bit convoluted and the writing rather rote at times - something probably bound to happen with an author as prolific as Patterson, although he does have Maxine Paetro around to help him.

However, suspense fans, particularly those who have followed the members of the Women's Murder Club from the beginning, will probably enjoy a chance to catch up with the girls over a cold beer or a pitcher of margaritas at Susie's and follow the four women as they inevitably beat the bad guys.
