Review of The All-American Rejects in Philadelphia, PA by Kristyn

It has been show overload for PCM these days, and I for one am loving every minute of it! This time PCM was able to catch up with the All-American Rejects when they played the TLA in Philadelphia. The band is gearing up for their December 16th album release " When the World Comes Down" and if their show was any preview of what is to come then fans are definitely in luck. Even though the venue was not filled to capacity the band had fantastic momentum, and definitely rocked hard at least in my eyes.

It was funny to hear lead singer Tyson Ritter make several quips throughout their set about how quiet the audience was and how they were "really freaking him out". I wish some of the band's energy had transferred out to the crowd, maybe we can chalk to up to a "case of the Monday's" which could be what happens when a show takes place on a Monday night in the city. I was surprised that the band busted out many of their strongest hits right from the start opening with "Swing, Swing" directly followed by "Dirty Little Secret". The Rejects were only on stage for about an hour total, with encore included, however in fairness it seems like the evenings openers The City Lives and Jet Lag Gemini played a bit longer than necessary. Don't get me wrong, they were perfectly good bands, the time just seemed to drag a bit.

I was excited to hear a few new AAR songs thrown into the set, especially the delightfully catchy "Gives You Hell". Towards the middle of their set, the band did acoustic versions of "Mona Lisa" and "It Ends Tonight" which was a great way to slow things down, before hyping everything back up for songs such as "I'm Waiting" and "Move Along". They encored the night with the appropriately titled "The Last Song". In my opinion the guys put on a solid rock show, and there is no denying the catchiness of AAR's music, the band truly knows how to pop out singles like champs. I just wish the crowd could have shared some of the bands enthusiasm and gave these guys the reception that they truly deserved.
