Marilyn Manson has released his new album, The High End of Low! PCM has your full review below!

by: Kristyn Clarke

Has Marilyn Manson finally grown up? That is the question that I ask myself when listening to his newest release, The High End Of Low. I am an individual that has been a huge fan of Manson’s for years and while I will say that this album will certainly not go down on the list as my favorite of all time, there is a certain polished edge to the release. Manson seems to be at home again working with longtime guitarist Twiggy Ramirez, and producers Sean Beaven and Chris Vrenna. I feel that neither fans or critics were pleased with the 2007 release of Eat Me, Drink Me, so the pressure was on to deliver a solid follow-up and in that sense The High End Of Low has certainly delivered.

The shock-value that has made Manson famous has been toned down just a bit, and we see a more personable or vulnerable side to his persona. The album takes a peek at Manson the man rather than Manson the shock artist. Don’t get me wrong, the album definitely has quite a few songs that will get the conservative tongues wagging, but he just doesn’t seem to be pushing the envelope as far. This album allows Manson to showcase more of his unique vocal range with tracks such as “Devour” and “Running to the Edge of The World” which a beautifully paced acoustic ballad. Manson has been experimenting with his sound for years, and with each release brings a new element of his style and range to the table. That is the mark of a true artist, someone who is completely willing to take chances for the sake of creating something that is very true to themselves.

Other stand-out tracks on the album are the bluesy “Four Rusted Horses”, the glam-inspired “Leave a Scar” and the album's heavy-hitting single” Arma .. ... Geddon”. The album leaves me with the impression that we have not heard that last from Marilyn Manson and company and feel that true fans will appreciate what an album like The High End of Low has to offer, which is a deeper look into what exactly can make an artist like Marilyn Manson tick.

Marilyn Manson Bio

Since emerging from South Florida in the early 1990s, Marilyn Manson has continued to upend the mainstream with each new release. The tumultuous relationship Manson has cultivated with the public worldwide has resulted in multi-million records sales, sold-out tours, protests, legal battles, hate, adoration, award-winning distilled spirits (Mansinthe) and most importantly, a long list of some of the most enduring and genre-defying music in the rock era (“Lunchbox,” “Sweet Dreams,” “The Beautiful People,” “Tourniquet,” “The Dope Show,” “This Is The New Shit,” “Mobscene,” “Heart-Shaped Glasses,” etc.)
