Lykke Li - Little Bit EP and debut album Youth Novels
All about Youth Novels:
Recorded with Bjorn Yttling (of Peter Bjorn and John fame) over the last 10 months, Youth Novels weaves its way through 14 perfectly-realized chapters. You'll hear harpsichords, flutes, and theremins throughout the album but you'll also hear Lykke Li's magnificently brittle, candy coated vocals. The record is like a well-thumbed paperback which falls open again and again on the same pages: love, loneliness, frustration, and obsession - the chronicles of Lykke Li's life so far, told with unusual honesty.

It includes recent hit "Little Bit" (released May 2008), continues with the punchy throb of "I'm Good, I'm Gone," whose video is already making waves around the internet, and brilliant songs like reluctant breakup anthem "Breaking It Up," "Let It Fall," and "Hanging High." Throughout, there's a sense of momentum and a pursuit of some unobtainable goal. "I don't think I'll ever be satisfied and calm," Lykke Li admits. "Even now I wonder how I'm going to live a whole lifetime, feeling how I do now..."

About the Little Bit EP:

Lykke Li is releasing her debut EP Little Bit, put out through her own label LL Recordings.

Recorded in Lykke Li's hometown of Stockholm, Sweden and New York City, and produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn and John, the songs on Little Bit are a reflection of Lykke Li's globe-trotting upbringing, marrying sounds that are diverse and worldly into incredible three minute pop songs. Lykke Li's uncontainable spirit and drive towards exploration conveys itself perfectly in her songs - they defy genre classifications and follow any aural road they choose.

Her debut album, Youth Novels, already released on herown label in Sweden has garnered a deafening roar of acclaim in the UK. Now, following a handful of wildly received shows at this year's SXSW, Little Bit and its accompanying tracks are hitting our shores, and we couldn't be more excited.

Joining a few of the dots between Feist, Robyn, Peter, Bjorn and John and Bjork, "Little Bit" is a hushed, breath-y, out-of-the-box smash. It's deceptively simple and undeniably addictive, full of coquettish "oohs," a Casio keyboard beat and a dizzy organ laced through the chorus as Lykke Li waxes poetic on the thrills and pitfalls of getting very physical indeed. "Dance Dance Dance" recalls Norma Frazer with Dancehall horns and honeyed, harmonied back-up vocals, while "Everybody But Me" features a leftfield arrangement of drum taps and a harmonium set against Lykke Li's feathery vocals. "Time Flies" caps off the EP, a stark, piano-driven tune centered around a two chord melody and Lykke Li's voice spilling tales of her vulnerabilities and sounding as soft as baby's breath.

The Word:
"On a yé-yé-influenced pop-noir track, our favorite new Swedish Sienna Miller look-alike (a South by Southwest breakout) delivers her English lyrics with adorable ESL flair. We Lykke."
- Rolling Stone

"'Little Bit' is so gloriously coquettish that if, by some fluke, it ends up not being massive, we're going to come round and crap through all your letterboxes. Consider this a warning."
- NME
