Call The Cops win "Rock the Space" Competition

MySpace and Toyota announced that California based electro-pop rock band is the winner of "Rock the Space," a competition that encouraged unsigned bands or solo artists to submit an original song for the opportunity to score a recording contract with MySpace Records.

After several weeks of voting, Justin Allen, Will Shuck, Stew Richmond and Bill Galvin of Call the Cops emerged as undeniable fan favorites with their original song "Room 410".

"We're thrilled to have won the Rock the Space contest," says Will Shuck, singer for Call the Cops. "We would like to thank our passionate fans for all their support."

As the grand prize winners, Call the Cops will receive a recording contract with MySpace Records and the band's winning single "Room 410" will be available for download on the MySpace Music homepage. They will also receive a musical instrument prize package from Fender.

Originating out of Long Beach California, Call the Cops officially came together in December 2008 and has already released a six song E.P titled "Motion Sickness" which has earned the band a loyal and passionate fan base, millions of MySpace plays and more than 72,000 friends. Call the Cops' electro pop rock music has created a distinctive sound that is forward thinking yet familiar, youthful and catchy - similar to that of Paramore, Fall Out Boy, and All Time Low.

"This competition really allowed the MySpace platform to do what it does best- enable the discovery of new music and new talent," said J Scavo, GM of MySpace Records. "I'm blown away by the quality of artists who emerged to participate and am particularly excited by Call the Cops. These guys are exceptionally talented and I'm really looking forward to working with them."

Since the contest launched in May 2009, "Rock the Space" received more than 18,000 submissions from talented artists across all musical genres. Entrants created a viral music widget to help spread their music across MySpace and the web.

In July, MySpace Records chose 5 finalists and allowed the MySpace community to vote for the winner. The four runners-up, including Big Chad Famous, Thee Armada, The Days the Nights and Jon Robert, will receive a MySpace Records development deal package.
