Review By Rebekah

As a fan of The Almost I was very excited for Monster Monster. However, I have some mixed feelings about the album. Overall it is a good album filled with a variety of quality songs, but it seems more like a step back from Southern Weather rather than a step forward. This album does not sound quite as cohesive as Southern Weather. It comes off sounding more like a debut album than the album of an already established band. This could be do to the fact that Southern Weather was created pretty much entirely by front man Aaron Gillespie and Monster Monster had input from the whole band.

The title track "Monster Monster" and the following track "Lonely Wheel" are some of the most upbeat alternative rock tracks on the album which is balanced by some softer worship sounding songs like "Hands" and "Souls on Ten." "Hand Grenade" is a great acoustic track that well compliments Gillespie's softer vocals. The most heartfelt song on the album is the closing track "Monster" which has a strong acoustic guitar sound and is also one of the most spiritual tracks on the album which questions if God would still love us if we were deformed.

The album is definitely worth buying, but don't expect a repeat of Southern Weather because this sophomore album has a very different vibe.
