This is a really good album, if you can just get
over his voice. James composes excellent music. Everything
sounds wonderful, goes together well, and you can
hear the emotion with every note, but his voice is
absolutely horrid. I can't tell if he's trying to
go for a British accent or just being overly dramatic
but it needs to stop, he sounds like an Emo Junior
Brown. It sounds as though he's trying too hard to
sound good. I'm pretty sure that if he used his natural
voice it would sound much better. If that is his natural
voice, then get some lessons.
Beside the horrible vocals, this is a great album.
The lyrics are well written and the music has real
character. The whole thing has an edgy progressive
sound reminiscent of Ben Folds Five that is intertwined
with some acoustic elegance. James goes from gritty
rock to flowing ballads on a dime. This album has
a lot to offer. There are many different sounds throughout
the whole thing; something that is rarely seen in
recent times. The music never gets old- just his voice.
