| Bruce Springsteen- Magic |

Review By discconnected
I know that every publication, web site and television
show will offer up their own review of Bruce's new CD,
and that my blog may be better served to expose readers
to music that's slightly off the beaten path. What can
I say-I've been a Bruce fan since 1974, so I'm gonna
write this.
After an acoustic record and a folk record, "Magic"
represents a return to form and a return to recording
with the E Street Band. The album kicks off with an
arena-ready anthem, Radio Nowhere, with it's chorus
of "Is there anybody alive out there" familiar
to those of us who have seen Bruce over the last two
decades-it's his signature line, kind of like "I'll
be back" is for Schwarzenegger.
The first review I read of this album likened "Livin'
In The Future" to "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out,"
but I hear more of "Glory Days" or "Hungry
Heart" in there (and a lot of "Out Of Work"
the song Bruce penned for Gary US Bonds) amid Clarence's
Motown-flavored saxophone.
"Girls In Their Summer Clothes" finds Bruce
channeling a "Pet Sounds" vibe-too bad this
song could not have been released as a summer single.
Bruce manages to flavor the lyrics with polictical
views, and whether you share his views or not, the
music, which tries on different styles and keys, is
a cause for celebration and this album is a welcome
addition to the Springsteen catalog. Now if the live
show will only find its way to Phoenix....
