Review by Tyler
Scott
Burning their way onto the modern Pop scene CNOTE
is back for round two. After failing to catch the
end of the Latin craze of 1999 and losing their two
lead singers, Brody and Dru, the remaining members
Raul and David began to regroup in 2005. After auditioning
they recruited three new singers: Josh, Orlando, and
Jae. Their self titled album is a spicy new mix of
Latin-flavored ghetto pop and bubblegum ballads. The
music on this album is finely crafted. Hit tracks
include the Latin dance hit "Baja Panties"
and the passionate ballad "Forgive Me".
Despite the quality of music the album lacks a clear
focus and their previous vocal beauty is exchanged
for a harder more raw sound. Their hard street image
connects with the albums ghetto pop tracks, but half
way through the sound turns to pure bubblegum pop.
It is such a drastic change in style and sound that
it blurs just what type of image and message the album
is trying to present. With their present image and
vocals the ghetto pop suits them nicely. The bubblegum
sound of their past does not age well. The rougher
voices do not complement the tight harmonies, long
phrases, and sweet singing that the albums ballads
and cooler songs require. All in All, CNOTE has turned
out a sizzling new album with plenty of hit tracks
that will be burning up the Miami strip and maybe
soon the modern pop charts.
