| Carbon Leaf - Love Loss

In thirteen years together, Carbon Leaf has evolved
from a Richmond Va. Bar band into a legitimate rock
outfit. After having won a soft drink company's "Best
New Artist" contest, and scoring a legitimate hit
with "Life Less Ordinary" from their 2004
"Indian Summer" album, the band wasted no
time delivering their follow-up to Vanguard Records.
"Love Loss Hope Repeat" finds the group
continuing to successfully blend acoutsic and electric
guitars with organ and mandolin to create a sound
that is at times haunting. Their lyrics contain an
optomism-replaing hopelessness theme delivered with
subtleness that straddles the folk and celtic genres
wit a bit of a country flavor.
This album is a little less less rowdy pub than past
efforts with strong vocals and soothing guitar riffs.
Perhaps not a five-star album, but several stand out
songs make it worth the purchase.
