Review By Sean
Possibly one of the greatest singer/songwriters that
no one has ever heard of, Lionheart's music is just
as complex as his name. He offers a well structured
take on large presentation of '60s folk music. His
music is intricately structured; Lionheart has obviously
done his music theory homework.
It's mellow, mystical and sensational. It makes use
of beautifully complex jazz progressions and suspenseful
and frequent key changes. Everything about the music
is controlled. It combines classical strings with
electric guitars and American folk music.
His voice, like the rest of the music, is calming
but not empty. There is something behind his smooth
dapper vocals that makes you listen intently listen
to his every word. There is a beautiful balance between
the immense orchestration of instruments in each of
his songs.
The entire album flows and should be listened to
as a whole. Sometimes you get lost and forget what
track you're listening to. It has a particular sound,
but not in a repetitive sense where one track could
easily be mistaken for the next.
The somber folky sounds are not something that should
be passed over and forgotten like the tracks of Elliott
Smith or Nick Drake. Simple, yet highly structured,
Lionheart delivers a timeless album that can be listened
to over and over.
