| Foreigner - Live in '05 |
|
|
Review By discconnected
As the classic rock bands age, they need to make replacements
of key band members for various reasons. In Foreigner's
case, Kelly Hansen stepped into the lead vocal role
due to Lou Gramm's battle with cancer.
The next step is for the band to get some product
on the shelf to establish credibility. Styx did this
with several live releases after sacking Dennis DeYoung,
while Journey issued a solid studio album after replacing
Steve Perry. Foreigner has opted to go with the live
release (a lot less creative effort and a lot quicker).
This release was being sold at their shows on the
summer 2007 tour, but is pretty much the same as the
"Extended Version" release issued by Sony.
Hansen (former singer of Hurricane as well as many
other projects) was a good choice for frontman. The
rest of the replacement players have solid musical
credentials (Jeff Pilson-Dokken, Jason Bonham-son
of John Bonham), but there is very little left of
the band that recorded the classic Foreigner albums
save for Mick Jones.
All in all, this is not a bad live CD, but I would
have rather the band recorded some original material.
For die hard fans or as a concert souvenir. Everyone
else should go out and buy the remastered editions
of Foreigner's first four albums, as they are essentials
for any rock album collection.
