Review By discconnected
Above The Storm, the new solo album from the highly
prolific singer-songwriter one again finds Peterik stretching
his musical horizons to his audience's benefit. Peterik's
music pedigree with Ides of March, Survivor, Pride of
Lions and World Stage is well known, and Peterik stands
out just as well on his own as he does in collaboration
with other musicians. In addition to his vocal talents,
Peterik also played guitar, bass, keyboards and percussion
on the album.
Peterik's lyrics reflect a generally positive outlook
on life, and his ability to turn a lyrical phrase
is evident on every word he sings. Great choruses
and guitar riffs abound, and the ballads are all very
good with a nice mix of rockers and mid-temp numbers.
Former bandmates in the group Ides Of March make background
vocal appearances as well as Scott May from Ides Of
March providing B3 organ.
Jim Peterik was never in danger of being recognized
as a household name, but he is one of the premiere
melodic rock performers of the last few decades. "Above
The Storm" serves as evidence of a master at
the top of his form.
