| Kelly King- Live the Dream

Review by Melissa
Kelly King's debut album Live the Dream features
music that is thankfully somewhat more original then
its title. The name of her website is Kelly King Sings,
and sings she does. Although personally I am not usually
a fan of female vocalists, King's powerful voice has
a soulful and sexy edge that reminds me of the post-"Dirty"
version of Christina Aguilera. Claiming that the genre
of King's album is "up to the audience to decide,"
her CD is comprised of an eclectic mix of pop, hip
hop, and R&B.
Live the Dream contains mostly up-beat, fast moving,
and catchy tracks where King proves that she can hit
the high-notes. Additionally, there are a number of
slow songs on the album that showcase her impressive
vocal range, but "Dreamer" and "I Don't
Want to Wake Up Without You" in particular, sort
of remind me a little too much of the tunes crooned
by the lovesick main character in a Disney movie right
before the climax.
"Dreamer" is being considered as the theme
song for the upcoming Olympics, which perhaps reinforces
my point. However, what's lacking in the creativity
of some of the tracks is more than made up for in
the powerful and passionate way she belts them out.
Kelly King, with her varying musical taste, is on
her way to developing her own distinctive sound and
is definitely an artist to look out for in the future.
