Annie Lennox paints a bleak landscape on this, her fourth
solo album in fifteen years. Her dusky voice covers
themes from dreams lost to love shatter from the opener
and first single, "Dark Road" to the finale,
"Fingernail Moon." Lennox weaves her imagery
masterfully around the contours of songs that suggest
the worst, her smooth voice sounding world-wise and
maybe a little world-weary. "Songs Of Mass Destruction"
is Lennox's most consistent, diverse and confident work
since "Diva."
