| Rufus Wainwright - Release
The Stars |

Review By Julie
After hearing Rufus Wainwright's version of, "Hallelujah,"
featured on the Shrek soundtrack, I was looking forward
to listening to his album, Release the Stars. I had
high expectations for this album after hearing thedreamy
voice on this song appearing in such a popular movie.
Unfortunately, this album was a bit too much for me.
The non-mainstream music streaming through track after
track is commendable. However, after about three quirky
sounding songs, enough is enough. Wainwright's delivery
and eclectic voice caused a wince or two from this PCM
reviewer. Where was this soft voice go? What happened
to, "Hallelujah?" I was saddened!
I will admit, one song on the album is really worth
a listen, it's called, "Tiergarden." I do
like that particular track very much (there, something
positive!). I will recommend this song to throw into
one's iTunes!
Overall, the record is very mellow and a bit too
eerie for my taste. Release the Stars succeeds as
a record for an alternative, folk music appreciator.
Wainwright's anti-popular music goals for his record
were achieved by his unpolished vocals and raw melodies.
Nevertheless, perhaps maybe I have been following
the mainstream music path more these days. I can't
seem to put Wainwright's album into my personal enjoyment
music basket quite yet!
