Sorry Ashton Shepherd but I don't agree - it could
sound better. She has the vocals and the talent, but
she over does it. Shepherd has a wonderful voice,
the true nature of which comes out at some points,
but she sacrifices what natural talent she has to
achieve a twangy country sound. On some of the slower
songs you can hear what she really sounds like without
subjecting her diction to Southern dialect. And let
me tell you it's wonderful.
The other vice of this album is that at no point
do I every believe her. She's singing about drinking
beer in saloons, but I never believe that's what she
wants to be doing. Tone it down - a lot. Get rid of
the big country ensemble, keep it simple, go back
to your roots and sing with the voice god gave you.
This is sophomoric attempt to grasp something that
she doesn't fully embrace.
I don't totally dismiss Shepherd because her true
voice is beautiful. It's enough to grant a second
try. Next time make it sincere, we can all tell this
country western thing is an act.
