| Tori Amos - American Doll
Posse |

Review By discconnected
Tori Amos has one heckuva cross to bear. "Little
Earthquakes," her debut CD (well second if you
count Y Kant Tori Read) was one of the best albums of
all time. I can still remember the in-store display
at Compact Disc World in Cherry Hill, NJ-it read something
like "if Elton John were a woman, this is the album
he would have released instead of Goodbye Yellow Brick
Road." I bought it based on that display and it
did not disappoint. Over the years, I've kept up with
Tori's albums but although she's had wonderful songs,
never has a complete work approached the quality of
that 1991 release.
"American Doll Posse" is Tori's ninth studio
album, and is every bit as good as "Under The
Pink" or "Scarlett's Walk," but still
not in the class of "Little Earthquakes."
It's still a fine release, with quite a few catchy
songs that will become fan favorites-take a listen
to "Bouncing Off Clouds" and "Big Wheel."
For this album, Tori has adopted five distinct personalities
who add their voice to each of the songs on the disc.
The whole album clocks in at almost 80 minutes for
the 23 songs, and while I may not agree with Tori's
apparent "more is better" philosophy, there
are more songs here that hit the mark than miss it.
"Little Earthquakes" has proven to be a
tough act to follow, but this one is in the ballpark.
