Sexyback
- Justin Timberlake
Former *NSYNC member Justin brought the FUN back to
funk with Sexyback, the first single from FutureSex/LoveSounds,
and it has become the most successful Pop Music crossover
dance hit since Yeah! in 2004. |

Hips
Don't Lie - Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean
Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll has been doing pretty
well for herself, writing, producing and performing
her own music since the mid-90s. Hips Don't Lie
is a unique crossover hit, being requested by younger
folks AND their parents. The fact that Shakira avoids
a lot of the controversy that her American peers seem
to thrive on doesn't hurt. |

Promiscuous
- Nelly Furtado featuring Timbaland
From Nelly's third album, Loose, this song typified
what many critics said: that she sold out her folk and
rock roots and sexed up and traded her soul for her
music. Something like that apparently worked; she has
sold a lot more records since adding hip hop and a dance
beat. Sexy duets sell, and Promiscuous offers
a sexy dance beat. |

Everytime
We Touch - Cascada
Cascada is made up of three German musicians: Natalie
Horler, DJ Manian and Yann Pfeiffer. Everytime We
Touch is that rare Euro-dance track that crosses
over into mainstream pop. |
| 5. |
Temperature
- Sean Paul
This very upbeat reggae–dancehall hit is unusual in
that it is more of a 'jumpy' dance hit, as opposed to
all that grinding that the grown-ups are always whining
about. |
| 6. |
S.O.S.
- Rihanna
The background beat is originally from Soft Cell's 1981
hit, Tainted Love, which was originally done by Gloria
Jones in 1964. The song was also used in commercials
for Agent Provocateur and Nike. |
| 7. |
Beep
- Pussycat Dolls
They started out as a stage
show, but by 2005, Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar,
Kimberly Wyatt, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta and Melody
Thornton became the recording act we now call the Pussycat
Dolls. There is no "unedited" version of the
song - the BEEP expressed by the Dolls and will.i.am
is left to the listener's imagination. |

Waiting
On The World To Change - John Mayer
Waiting earned John the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal
Performance. Social commetary from a young, mainstream
pop artist hadn't been heard in such a cohesive way
in a long time.
He lays as much of the blame on what he sees around
himself on his own, as well as the younger, generation.
No answers, but knowing what the problem is, IS half
of the solution, right?
Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it
It's not that we don't care,
We just know that the fight ain't fair
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

Pump
It - Black Eyed Peas
Pump It's guitar riff and horns come from surf-guitarist
extraordinaire Dick Dale's 1962 hit, Miserlou.
It was a Greek Folk song that was originally re-written
by Nicholas Roubanis, who got the "writer credit."
It cracked the Billboard Top 20, helped by use of the
track in a Best Buy commercial and the PlayStation 2
game Singstar R&B. |

You're
Beautiful - James Blunt
You're Beautiful was written after seeing his
ex, one Dixie Chassay, in a London subway with her new
beau. To date, it is only song by a British artist to
top the Latin America Top 40. |
