Pop Culture Madness is looking for a few interested
writers, reviewers, interviewers and even some people who
are willing to do a little clerical work.
PCM is offering internships for undergraduate and graduate
students interested in careers in Journalism, Freelance Writing
and Research, Broadcasting and Communications in Delaware
and Southeastern Pennsylvania.
The following information will hopefully answer your general
questions.
|
| Who? |
Us: Founded
in 1999, Pop Culture Madness is one of the most popular music
and pop culture themed sites on the internet.
(Look Up "Pop Culture" , "Pop Music" and
"Pop Songs" on google!)
You: Enthusiastic writer/reviewer/reporters looking for experience
and perhaps a little fame. (Are you up for a monthly audience
of 500,000+ people reading the words you write?) We are also
looking for some assistance in the world of web design, flash
and PHP. |
| Where? |
| After your
training, you can often work from home or your dorm, but we
would like to see you stop by the office in Claymont at least
once a week after training. The nonsmoking office is open for
our hard working interns who are more than welcome to do some
homework here after your PCM duties are done. The atmosphere
and dress code at PCM is casual, although we may reinstate "Dress
Up Tuesdays". |
| What
Do I Do? |
|
Many Positions are available. Spellcheckers,
for one thing. We need writers and fans (and anti-fans) of
American Popular Culture... TV, Books, Movies, Magazines,
Gossip, Music...
Pop Culture Madness is looking for Television
fans. Whether it is American Idol, The Lost,
24, Buffy or Gilligan's Island, we are
looking for one-time commentaries for individual shows, celebrities
or episodes and ongoing weekly play-by-play for shows like
So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol, etc.
We need Movie fans to write reviews for new movies in the
theaters as well as DVD reviewers for new and old releases.
We often get get preview screeners for upcoming films and
television shows, and you can get an early viewing of many
upcoming features!
Music fans too? YES! We need reviewers for new and upcoming
releases and reissues.
Are there other duties? Sure. These vary depending on your
talents and time. Duties include but are not limited to: writing
(and researching what you write), looking up trivial facts,
editing pictures for online use and anything else that springs
up.

| When |
|
Our programs are open for college credit, or without.
Our 2009/2010 Intern Program is always open for interns,
working with or without college credit.
We're pretty flexible, late afternoons into early evenings
fit most student's schedules.
How much time is required? The internship requires a commitment
of two half days per week minimum during the fall and spring
and one-three days (or up to six half days) each week during
the summer.
Winter Break help would be appreciated, and if for some reason
you are stuck here during Spring Break, the office will be
available and open.
|
| Pay? |
|
Yeah, right. The experience alone can be worth
millions of dollars. PLUS, you can save a small fortune on
DVDs, CDs and other stuff. HERE
is a sample list of some of the artists and bands we have
gotten music from, interviewed, seen live and/or worked with
one way or another. More HERE.
We interview many artists,
television stars, and celebrities too.
There will be some "bonus" monies
to be set aside at the end of each semester for interns who
complete projects and assignments given to them.
How much is "bonus monies", you ask?
If you really must know, it will depend on how many individuals
complete their assignments, how many stay throughout the semester.
A rough estimate would be $100.00 to $600.00 for each individual.
Soft drinks are always free for working interns
and pizza often appears like magic at lunch and/or dinner
time.
Occasional expenses for films seen in theaters
and reviewed can be reimbursed, and the complete review and
weekly updates of several TV shows from start to finish (American
Idol for example) could result in a cash bonus. During the
summer program, some semi/full time interns may be offered
a paid position.
While Pop Culture Madness gets to keep and use
whatever work or research you have done for us, so do you.
Anything you do while working for Pop Culture Madness is viewed
as "shared" property.
