Brett August PCM Interview

Brett August - Next Food Network Star

PCM had some questions answered by Next Food Network Star finalist Bret August. He has worked for 11 years as the executive sous chef at Doral Arrowwood Hotel in Rye Brook, N.Y. Brett was inspired to start cooking at a young age by his father and he then went on to the New York Restaurant School. His culinary perspective focuses on simple food for the home cook. He was the second contestant to get voted off of the fifth season of Next Food Network Star.

Q: If you could have changed what food you prepared on the show, what would you have prepared instead and why?

Brett August: I had ground beef and pickles in front of me, I must have changed my mind about 50 times and I came up with that. I can't really tell you specifically what I would have done different with food. But with each challenge maybe I would have done something differently according to what was wanted.

Q: What was your favorite aspect about participating in a show like Next Food Network Star?

BA: Well you are trying to achieve the ultimate goal of getting a TV show and be on TV. Just meeting the sets and the whole Food Network thing is amazing.

Q: Is there something that you wish you would have had the chance to showcase on the show?

BA: I wish I could just showcase Brett August more. I don't think two weeks is enough to see. Just over all just myself, that way people see the total package and what is really going on. Thats it really.

Q: What are your future plans?

BA: I think I am going to start playing basketball for the Lakers. The whole thing on the show has opened up so many doors for me. If somebody calls me up and says I know you didn't make it on this show, but I think you are wild and crazy and corky and I would love to do something with you. Then the next thing you know I'm all over the place.

Q: What advice would you give to future contestants?

BA: I would just say good luck and enjoy it, you have to do it, it's a once in a lifetime thing. If you send your video in and they pick you, just go for it.
