Tamayo's interview with the rising star below!
AT: Tell me a little bit about growing up in Russia and
discovering your love for music.
GH: I think my music really was determined because I love
singing and playing piano since my childhood.
AT: So you always knew you wanted to be involved with
the music industry somehow?
GH: Yes, I always knew that I wanted to sing and now I'm living
my dream. My dream is true now and I'm really happy about
that.
AT: I also read that you did musicals and sang in a children's
opera when you were younger. How did you transition to pop
music?
GH: Because I like it so much - since the first time I heard
Tina Turner, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. It was new
for me, it was special for me, and I was so inspired by their
music so I decided to try and now I'm doing these things.
AT: Do you still enjoy opera music?
GH: I do I still enjoy opera music but I don't sing it anymore.
AT: What made you decide to come to the U.S. to share your
music with all of us?
GH: I always wanted to be an international singer in America
- it's the best place because all the fashion in music came
from America. So it was a big dream for me to come here and
try if I could be understandable and acceptable for the American
market. I'm coming here to share my love and my music with
the American audience.
AT: Would you say it's hard to break into the music industry
here?
GH: I don't know yet because I'm just making my transition,
but yes it was difficult to get attention from the producers
and get their trust that I can do this job well in America.
AT: How are the fans and the music industry in general
different here in America than in Russia?
GH: It's different, very different. Even pop music in Russia
and America are completely different. We have our style, but
it's hard for international [artists]. If u want to be international
you have to listen to American pop singers - the style, the
vocal positions, everything.
AT: Well your new single "Just a Man" was just
released today and features Snoop Dogg! How did that collaboration
come about?
GH: We were looking for a great feature artist for my single
and we couldn't even imagine that Snoop would say yes, but
we decided to try because Snoop is one of the most popular
rap artists in Europe and Russia, one of the most well known.
So we tried and sent him the track and then he said "yes,
I like this track"! I was so happy. So the track came
out with Snoop Dogg and that is a big fortune for me.
AT:
Who else would you love to work with?
GH: I have a big dream to make something together with Tina
Turner because she was the biggest inspiration of my life,
and probably she's the same for me as was Michael Jackson.
I don't know if could say that one day Beyonce would like
to sing something with me, but if it happens I would be the
most happy man in the world because I love Beyonce! Beyonce
is the best. She's a great singer and great performer.
AT: Are you touring now?
GH: I'm supposed to start after I release the first single
and after I make the first show here, but yes, it's on the
list.
AT: Your new album is scheduled to release this year. How
would you describe the music on the album?
GH: If you're talking about the style its pop, r&b or
sometimes even a mix of hip-hop . I really chose songs with
emotion that create the best, the main message of this album,
which is love. Love to the people, love to the world - its
love.
AT: Do you have any ultimate goals as a musician that you'd
love to accomplish?
GH: I'd like to win a Grammy - that's my goal! That's my dream.
AT: What can fans expect next from you? You're touring,
you have the album coming out, what's next?
GH: I think in a few months I might start working with another
album already because it's a big process and I don't like
to be in a rush. I like to pick up songs slowly and work with
the songs and at the end of the day have a really great project.
I think we are going to make a new video for the second single
as well. This is the plan - we will see how it will go.
AT: You said you like to take your time when putting together
an album - what inspires you during this long process?
GH: I always try to pick the music from what I feel, what
can express my life emotion of the moment. I think the audience
knows if you are honest or not, and if you know exactly what
you are singing about it always comes out great and strong.
I'm just catching my new impressions about life, I'm catching
my new feelings and I'm trying to share all these feelings
and emotions with these people. That's why I'm always honest
with people when I'm coming on stage because I know what I'm
singing about -it was part of my life and my experience.
AT: When you're on stage what can fans expect from one
of your shows?
GH: Expect a great show - very sincere with a great energy
and great mood. I always share my love with the world and
to the people and it's not just the words. This is really
what I feel in my life and in a real show people can feel
that too, I hope. This is what I try to do.
