Q:
I am going to start this interview off with the question you
probably get the most! How did you come up with the name Jibbs?
Jibbs: It started from when I was a kid. My
mom gave me the name Jibbs when I first started talking, because
I would talk a lot and it was like jibber-jabber, so the name
kind of stuck.
Q: How happy are you with
the feedback of your new single "The Dedication",
it is being labeled at the spring/summer anthem? What is it
all about?
Jibbs: Oh, man, it is a blessing. I have been
gone for a minute and for me to come back and people to rate
it as that I love it!
Q: I can imagine. Who would
you list as some of your major influences?
Jibbs: I grew up listening to Lil Wayne and
Jay-Z. Jay-Z is my major influence, but Lil Wayne, Geezy,
and Eminem are a definitely up there as well.
Q: You had great success with
your song "Chain Hang Low" a few years back, do
you feel your sound has matured since then?
Jibbs: Oh yeah, of course it is has definitely
matured over the years. I have grown and developed and been
through a lot of different experiences. I am now talking about
different subjects, I went through finishing school and living
on my own, and I am living a new life. The music has definitely
matured because I have.

Q:
With your age, how much pressure do you feel there is on young
artists these days? With the idea of acting as a good role model,
does that put a lot of pressure on you?
Jibbs: No, I want to be able to appeal to
people any way and I want people to be able to relate to me,
so there is not that much pressure because that is what I
do anyway. I want to be motivational to everyone. It is not
pressure when you want to do it as opposed to if you want
to do what you want to do not caring what anyone else thinks.
I care about everyone's opinion, whether they like me or hate
me, everyone has the right to their own opinion.
Q: Right. I keep hearing that
you took a two year hiatus between your debut and now. What
were you doing during that time? Was it just school and everything?
Jibbs: Yeah, I was just getting my priorities
straight, finishing school. I am living on my own now, read
a lot more books, and recorded over 100 songs for my album,
so in the process I never stopped recording.
Q: So, when should we be expecting
a new album to drop?
Jibbs: Be expecting a new album late this
summer. You can stay in tune with me via my website and I
will keep everyone posted on when the album is due.

Q:
I was looking through your MySpace and I saw a ton of Tweets
from you and it seems like you are really great about keeping
fans up-to-date. How do you feel about MySpace and Twitter as
a way to connect with fans and promote the music?
Jibbs: I feel MySpace is a good site because
that is the first site with we, as artists were able to first
connect with everyone across the world. I think it is great
the everyone can easily go on there and access your music.
I also feel Twitter is a great site too because it is a mini-micro
blogging site and you don't have to go through the process
of putting songs up or a ton of pictures, all I have to do
is sign on to my Twitterberry and post a quick message to
let everyone know what I'm up to and what is going on. Both
sites are really important because I am able to reach my fans
all over the world.
Q: Of course! The Twitter
phenomenon has just taken off! What is a piece of advice you
would give to someone who is an aspiring rap artist?
Jibbs: I would tell them to stay motivated
and dedicated to what they are doing because if you don't
use it, you lose it. Also, never depend on anyone else to
go out and get anything for you because it just doesn't work
like that and just stay your ground. If you are a younger
artist trying to get in, then stay in school and make sure
that you get good grades because when I was going through
getting my record deal I didn't know that I had to have good
grades on my report card for the judge to even approve of
me getting signed. They figure if you are not doing well in
school and your parents want school to be in the contract
the whole time, then how are you going to be focused on school
with going on tour and all. I would just say to make sure
that you are in the right state of mind when you are trying
to do everything.

Q:
I am so glad that you mention that because I did not know how
that processed worked with young artists that are still in school
and becoming signed to a label. Where do you see the future
of music heading and where do you see yourself fitting into
that picture?
Jibbs: I see myself climbing to the top, until
I am in the presidents chair, for me personally (laughs) I
will just let time tell where it will take me, I am trying
to become the youngest mongul in the industry. The mongul's
I look up to are a lot older than me and a lot wiser but we
me coming in as young as I came in then I can learn a lot
of the stuff that they know at a young age and be able to
sit in that seat early in my career.
Q: Do you have a dream artist
that you would like to collaborate with one day?
Jibbs: Yes, I would love to collaborate with
Jay-Z or Eminem.
Q: Definitely two great choices!
Is there any final message you would like to share with your
fans and our site readers at PCM?
Jibbs: I am doing a lot of stuff this year.
Not only am I just coming out with a new album but I am writing
R&B songs, I am ghost-writing for some rappers and I am
producing some records this year. If fans want to stay posted
with what I am doing and stay in tune with the exact date
of when the album is coming out, I want to let everyone know
to check out my MySpace and Twitter. I am on those sites everyday
and Jibbsmusic.com
Q: Great! Thank you so much
for taking the time out to speak with us!
