Interview with Justin Stein

(March 2009) - PCM's Kristyn Clarke spoke to young artist, Justin Stein. Stein has opened for acts like Jordin Sparks, Jesse McCartney and High School Musical's Corbin Bleu. The 18-year-old from Chicago has quite a following of Disney tweens, that's one thing for sure! He sings, dances, acts and more. He's listed Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, Ne-Yo and Rascall Flatts as some of his main musical influences.

Kristyn and Justin kicked off our interview by discussing what first sparked his interest in music.

"The first time I stepped onto a stage, I was five. It was in a talent show my grandmother got me into. I did my thing and walked off and knew what I wanted to do the rest of my life," he told PCM.

Justin's upbeat and positive attitude oozed through the phone during our conversation with him. He revealed that if a crowd is up and dancing during one of his shows, he feels like he's doing his job. The young artist also writes his own songs.

"I write the majority of my own music and co-wrote most of the songs on my album. I don't really have a process, honestly, but in the studio, we'd come up with a concept of a song and we'd start figuring out the melody and lyrics. A lot of times, I'd just be home and have an inspirational moment and jump on my keyboard and record something. It happens all different ways. It's definitely a fun process," said Justin.
