Interview with Parachute

(March 2009)- Love new bands? PCM's Kristyn interviewed alternative band Parachute, who just released their first single, "She Is Love."

Parachute includes Will Anderson (guitars, piano, lead vocals), Kit French (saxophone, keyboards, vocals), Alex Hargrave (bass), Johnny Stubblefield (drums), and Nate McFarland (lead guitar, vocals). The guys were formerly known as Sparky's Flaw when they began playing together in high school and later on as students at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. They've been signed to Mercury Records and are now currently on tour with Jon McLaughlin! The band's new song is also featured on a special Nivea commercial spot. New music on TV is so popular these days!

PCM's writer Kristyn spoke to Will Anderson about his band and what's it like to be on the roller coaster ride that Parachute has hopped on! The band just graduated college and are now out performing music full time! Check out their MySpace page to learn more about the guys and sample songs! See if they'll be touring in a venue near you!

We love sampling music. Here's a special treat: Listen to "She Is Love" here! Check out some Q&A from our talk with Will about the band and then take a listen to an audio clip from the interview! Kristyn and Will have a fun conversation about their shared love of ABC's 'Lost!'

Q: With the success of your single happening now, when can we expect a full length album?

Will: Well, the single is doing great and we're really happy with the reaction! We think the album will be out in May. We're so excited that it'll finally be out, it's a dream come true for us!

Q: You've shared the stage with Switchfoot, Duffy and more recently Taylor Swift and The Jonas Brothers on New Years Eve, what's been one of the more memorable moments of your career so far?

Will: For me, I'm just pinching myself and praying that I don't wake up! (laughs) For a small band like us, it's been so surreal. I can't even describe it. We just graduated in college! It's been amazing and a big moment for us to be in Times Square for New Years! Just to hang out and see all the artists there.

Q: How would you describe your sound to a first time listener?

Will: You know, it's pop, it's melodic. People tell us we're a mix of Maroon 5 and The Fray. It's very piano based but also we have a lot of soul to it, too!

Q: How do you feel about social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook for a new band to keep in touch with fans, etc?

Will: I love it. I don't think you should base all your relationships online but it's a great way to stay in touch with fans and share music. Why not? For a band or even for an individual, I have my own MySpace page, it's just a great way to keep connected. I think they are great ways to discover new music. I spent some time browsing through the pages to find new bands, it's fun, you can find out where they are playing, you know? It's great.
