Sam
Moore Interview
MUSIC GUY: Hi Sam this is
MUSIC GUY from Pop Culture Madness!
Sam: Yo! Where are you?
MUSIC GUY: I am in Delaware!
SAM: You are where?
MUSIC
GUY: Uh, I call it the suburb south of Philadelphia.
Sam: OK, I
gotcha! What can I do for you?
MUSIC GUY: I just listened to your
new album that came out. My buddy El Fairworth who is a musician was supposed
to be chatting with you, however, due to the short notice I am going to talk with
you and use some of his questions he prepared. I have no musical talent however
so I hope you can bear with me!
SAM: (laughs loudly) OK!
MUSIC GUY: I am not even worthy to even be talking to a legend like you but
I will try. El says hello anyway.
SAM: Back at him!
MUSIC
GUY: I have some questions about the new album and some of your past songs you
had done such as Hold On, I'm Comin' and Soul Man. How does it feel
to hear these songs on the radio today?
SAM: I hear them with a grain
of salt. I know though that these songs are like an anthem. I am proud to have
been part of that. Today I just hope I can accumulate the same audience with twice
the amount of fans that Sam & Dave had. I really appreciate them.
MUSIC GUY: I really enjoyed the new album.
SAM: Which songs did
you enjoy the most?
MUSIC GUY: I liked the one with Fantasia, I enjoyed
hearing Bon Jovi, You Are so Beautiful was cool too. Was this one of the last
things Billy Preston recorded?
SAM: No, I Can't Stand the Rain
was the last recording he did with me. His manager is also my manager and she
set it up so that he would not sound sick for the recording. He wasn't there in
person for this recording. Our manager found it important not to have him sound
ill for this tribute like Ray did. She was adament to not have that done a second
time. So she looked and looked and finally found something and used that particular
recording file and dropped it in.
MUSIC GUY: Who did you record live
with in the studio?
SAM: Sting, Paul Rogers and Johnny Bon Jovi.
The others recorded themselves on a file and sent to us as at their own discretion.
MUSIC GUY: As a young man who did you listen to?
SAM:
Oh my goodness. I was into gospel at the time. Rock and Rock was considered the
devil's music and was not allowed in my home. Outside of the house I did listen
to the Dominos and Clyde McPhatter. That's how that was back then.
MUSIC
GUY: I think the album is off to a good start. You have touched a lot of lives
with your performances and recordings. That must be very satisfying.
SAM:
Thank you it is satisfying. The performers took it upon themselves and reached
out to me because they really wanted to be a part of this. I really appreciate
that.
MUSIC GUY: You have a bunch one name performers here,
Wynona, Fantasia and Sting. You Sam are also a one namer.
SAM:
(laughs loudly) Ahh! There you go!!
MUSIC GUY: Thank you
for your time. We appreciate it
SAM: Thank you very much.
