Interview with The Knux

(October 20, 2008) - PCM's entertainment writer Julie Kissane sat down and chatted with hip-hop duo, The Knux about their genre-bending debut album, Remind Me In 3 Days. Their songs have been featured on HBO's hit show Entourage.

The Knux are a self-produced group comprised of two brothers, Rah Al Millio and Krispy Kream, from New Orleans. Get a little taste of what The Knux is all about, their single, "Bang Bang," can be previewed here . We think their unique music and vibe may make them the next big thing!

PCM talked to The Knux about topics like shooting music videos, fashion, touring and even memorable Halloween costumes, it is October after all!
The guys have so pretty unique and entertaining concepts surrounding their music videos. Krispy shared with us their secret to working together, "Al co-directs the videos. I tell him my ideas and he leads, if he's good at it, why not take the reigns? He comes up with all the s***. He leads in our partnership in that aspect."

In their music videos, the storylines and overall themes keep their fans entertained while enjoying the music. Their new album hit stores on October 28th and Al Millio shared their feelings towards the release,"We're ready to get the music out there for people to hear. We're not set on selling a million albums or have a goal like that, we just want people to hear what we're all about."

The image and style of The Knux has seemed to be a theme that keeps popping up in album reviews and articles about the duo. Julie asked them how important fashion was to their music. Krispy replied, "We don't take fashion too seriously, we keep our style. It's how we dress day to day and we wear what we want to wear." The guys have been photographed in bright colors, like 80's hip-hop themed outfits and other unique trends. Their style seems to blend well with the type of music they're putting out into the music world.

"Don't get us wrong," said Al Millio, "We definitely like to look good, there's nothing wrong with fashion, we know what's tacky and what isn't. We just don't let it overtake the music, that's when you run into a problem."

The Knux just recently ended a tour with a very hectic schedule. They shared with our writer how they once squeezed performing in 8 cities in just four days. "You never get used to being out like that. But we'd rather be doing this than flipping burgers, that's our drive, you know?" laughs Al Millio. "It's a blessing to get paid to be doing what we're doing."

The brothers seem to have good heads on their shoulders. They've certainly maintained good attitudes while being so busy. Krispy and Al Millio were even nice enough to joke around with our writer about memorable Halloween costumes they had when they were growing up together.

"Al was Frankenstein one year with the Doc Marten boots and a blazer. He was a mini Frankenstein, it was so good" Krispy laughs as he talked about his brother's costume. The guys took a walk down memory lane and laughed about how Krispy wanted to be Dracula every year when they were growing up. They may have left the Halloween costumes behind now, they're on to bigger projects. With their debut album release set, The Knux seems ready to conquer the music buiness and give the world of hip-hop a jolt. They assured us that they're in it for the long haul.
